Raphael Warnock's Dog Ads Cut Against White Voters' Stereotypes Of Black People

If he wins next month, Raphael Warnock may have his pet beagle to thank.

So far, Warnock, the Democratic candidate in one of Georgia’s two Senate runoff elections, has aired two ads featuring his dog. In the first, he uses his cuddly canine to preempt negative GOP attacks against him — attacks that have tried to paint him as an ideological extremist and tie him to far-left Black activists.

In the second ad, the pooch plays an even more prominent role, with Warnock walking his dog through a suburban neighborhood, poop bag in hand, while denouncing Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s “smear ads” against him.

“I think Georgians will see her ads for what they are — don’t you?” he asks as he throws the poop bag into the garbage. The beagle barks in agreement and licks his owner’s face.

It says a lot about some folks if having a dog is what makes you see a black person as human.

I also think that owning and caring for a pet says a lot about any person's humanity.

see he is not a "scary, angry, black man".

But those white people are ok with Trump had no pets and hates animals.

the subset of trumpists who determinedly ignore Trump's dislike of puppies. Of course his being on the wrong side of a gut trigger affects his approval among other conservatives, and of course indies and Democrats.

They ran ads with dogs in that race too. They accused Michael Steele of not liking dogs, then Michael Steele did a commercial with a dog saying he loved dogs. I will say, I like Michael Steele more now than I did then. He is still a republican, but he hates tRump.

He knows Georgia and will run a phenomenal campaign.

Let's hope the socialists stay out of this campaign. Let's leave it to Stacey Abrams and Rev. Warnock.

I think people might be more willing to hold KL accountable because she is a woman while giving DP a pass because he is a white man.

And I can kind of see people splitting their votes.

But hopefully the Democratic Turnout is more than Republican so the things I mention above wont make much difference and both Democrats end up winning.

(I'll get back to the Rev)

... eating pizza with a knife and fork!

I looove pizza, and I have downed 3 regular size slices
in a lot of sittings a long time back. Over time for $ and eating less of it I found eating it w a k&f slowed me down, and I could be quite satisfied with only two. So that has worked ever since. 😁

Sure, as above said by poster that it's sad he has to pose with with his dog for certain white people to feel safe. As a Reverend I'm sure he's been stern, maybe righteously angry at time (and what black person doesn't have things to be rightgeously angry about in general, but in this case from the pulpit) - but I like his easy going approach in these ads.
Like the - we knew those negative ads were coming.
And I think where he says approximately- why doesn't my opponent talk about the issues instead of just complaining about me.

I did contribute to both of them, and Stacy's voter organization. Hopefully I can squeeze in one more.

More blue for you, Georgia!

associated Pit Bulls and Rottweilers more with AA is at least a quarter century old.

Giant change has occurred since the days when we didn't begin to suspect we'd elect a black president little more than a decade later and a black first lady would be overwhelmingly admired and respected, including by half of those on the right.

According to one uncorroborated survey, dogs for protection are still genuinely among the favorites of AA, but labs are extremely popular, and chihuahuas, Yorkies, Pugs, and Boston Terriers are also among most popular breeds. AA women are getting college degrees in much higher numbers than most demos. And AA have even been Starbucks customers and executives for a long time now. Big changes!
