Funny thing..my father could have been a Dick Van Dyke double. The resemblance was so strong that, when I was a very young child, I thought that was my dad on TV every week with Mary Tyler Moore.

Dad has been gone many years now, but the older Dick Van Dyke gets, the stronger the resemblance. Seeing him warms my heart.

What did they do with all the walnuts? Were they donated to charity (most likely St. Jude's)? Did cast and crew take a bag home? If you see him, ask him for me. He'll know what you're talking about.

Show was on a tight budget and nothing was wasted. But I recall reading in Mary Tyler Moore’s biography that the entire crew experienced extreme flatulence the entire week because of those walnuts. — and had a good laugh over it. True story.

It May Look Like A Walnut nearly didn’t get made. Executive Producer Sheldon Leonard thought the script was too silly and out of show character. Carl Reiner lobbied for it, and it became one of the greatest sitcom episodes ever. Leonard admitted his mistake later on. He was decent that way.

It also made me laugh. That's the key with comedy: the non-comic aspects have to work for the comic ones to be especially funny. That's what Irving Thalberg taught The Marx Brothers.

In great health too, dancing really keeps you in good shape. I remember when Dick talked about how quitting drinking was far easier than stopping smoking not too long ago.

He asked for his part of the Mary Poppins scene where he’s standing on rooftops

It was all shipped out to him, animatronic figure and all!

But he still remains unpunished for the "accent" he used in the original Mary Poppins.

And enough hoo-hah over that damn accent. It's a fucking movie. For children. They don't care whether the accent is accurate or not.

"Remains unpunished."

My high school in Van Nuys, CA had originally been a veteran’s rehabilitation hospital from WWII. It had no real football field so Dick Van Dyke and several others organized a fund raiser for that purpose.

It culminated in an amazing rock concert on May 20, 1967. The headliners at Birmingham High were The Doors and the Jefferson Airplane. I still have the ticket stub, $3.00, hard to believe.

Ah, The Sixties....

I was at a C, S, N & Y concert in NJ when he resigned (a lot of people brought radios to the show)!

I can't remember which song they had just finished when someone ran over from off stage to whisper in one of their ears (we we're far in the back), they announced his resignation.

We went happily bonkers! 😂😂😂😂😂
It was glorious!
Then at the end (and I don't know whether they had them ready for just this occasion - or for every show) they set off fireworks! What a night!

I'm going to have to look up that episode. 😁👍
