I have a good friend who puts her money where her mouth is,

she is a huge advocate for the rights of IV drug users. She works with groups helping them to get clean needles and good, honest, non-judgmental information. I almost starting working with her because I agree with her point of view. The only thing that stopped me was timing - I had just invited my ex husband to come look for a job and it turned out he was a drug addict. I needed time to process my personal pain so that I didn't transfer it to the drug addicted people she works with.

She just sent me a petition regarding a heinous story in The Stranger, the local alternative rag that is usually very progressive but screwed up badly this time. She asked me to spread it around. I don't do Face Book anymore, so you guys are it. If you think drug addicts are getting just what they deserve, don't bother to do the poll, but for those of you who hope to pull this normally liberal newspaper back to it's roots, here's the link. There is a comment box at the end, so while the petition takes little time, the comment box is unlimited. Needless to say, my comment was long and scathing.

2. Darn, this is dropping like a rock

Just do it. It's quick, easy and doesn't require any money. She's out every week handing out clean needles. Help her and her clientele to not be disparaged while struggling. It's the Democratic way. We're the ones who care.
