Hundreds of bodies of COVID victims have been kept inside NYC freezer trucks since APRIL because city morgues are full and officials can't track down family members

Around 650 dead bodies are in storage freezer trucks in New York City since they were installed in April
Officials said many of the bodies are of people who couldn't afford a proper burial or because relatives couldn't be located
The chief medical examiner's office wasn't equipped to deal with the surge in deaths that came during the coronavirus pandemic
Backlogged cases resulted on some families going weeks or months without knowing a loved one died
Most bodies would have been buried at Hart Island, by Mayor Bill de Blasio vowed there would be no mass burials
The storage facilities will likely stay in place until the pandemic is over

If a homeless person or someone in a shelter dies with only rudimentary identification, it may be hard to identify any next of kin.

The article uses the term "loved ones", but some people have no relatives that they want anything to do with, and vice versa.

And not everyone's fingerprints are in the FBI's file. Tracking down relatives might be possible through DNA and the new genealogical databases, but that's a lot of work too.

I think of things like this and children in cages, and I'm furious when I see news stories blithely state that it's unlikely trump will go to jail. Why in the world should he be allowed to walk away from the death and crimes against humanity he's responsible for?

But as you know, everything's bigger in Texas!

National Guard to support El Paso morgues as COVID deaths surge
Fadel Allassan

Members of the Texas National Guard have been deployed to El Paso County to support the region's morgue operations, as the county undergoes a "spike in deaths" related to COVID-19, El Paso Mayor Dee Margo announced.

The backdrop: Texas became the first state to surpass 1 million coronavirus cases earlier this month.

The team of 36 National Guard troops was mobilized Saturday morning. It will "provide mortuary affairs support," a spokesperson for the Texas Division of Emergency Management told CNN.
