(14,155 posts)Historically the party in control of the White House is expected to lose midterm election seats in congress.
So keeping the majorities in the House and Senate will be an up hill climb and take some hard work.

(14,155 posts)You can bet they will gerrymander them to death.
The maps are to be redrawn just before 2022. The newer the gerrymandered map, the more accurate, the more advantageous for the ReThugs to marginalize Dem votes.
So we have that working against us too.

Arizona's is done by independent group, whereas Texas' is drawn by the legislature
The worst part of 2020 was not taking control of the TX House. We will probably get 3 new House seats which will set off a lot of redrawing.

(7,263 posts)I see at least 4 very vulnerable seats we have a shot at picking up with a Stacy Abram's type effort:
Chuck Grassley, Iowa
Rob Portman, Ohio
Tim Scott, South Carolina
Ron Johnson, Wisconsin
Perhaps we have a long shot at these 3 with a like effort:
Marco Rubio, Florida
Jerry Moran, Kansas
Roy Blunt, Missouri
If we can hold our current seats, this could mean a pickup of 8 seats.
Let's get to work.

(63,875 posts)work, let this embolden us, we can do this. None of those are my Senators (thank God) but geez I pumped money into Georgia and we got Ossof and Warnock, so I am willing to do this again.
Rubio???? hmm...didn't they say that Barbie impersonator was thinking about a run. The spawn of you know who. We got to look out for Q's.

Meanwhile on Monday I plan to call the Florida Democratic Party to see if they have any candidates in mind to run against Rubio in 2022 and Scott in 2024.

(48,955 posts)I think it would be interesting if Jeb! got in the race. Let the bloody Trump, Trump deranged, and Trump aper fight for and split up the trumpy base, while that which is more moderate vote for Jeb. He might benefit from fonder memories re: his governorship when compared to the current dangerous stew of a governor.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani owes $7,859.17 for 2019 taxes on a Palm Beach Towers condominium. Lana Marks, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa, delinquent on property taxes for two Palm Beach County condominiums - one for $12,218.61 and another for $13,870.98.
Rudolph Giuliani, attorney and adviser to President Donald Trump, and Lana Marks, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa, are both delinquent on Palm Beach County property taxes, records show.
Former New York City Mayor Giuliani owes $7,859.17, including interest and penalties, for 2019 taxes on a Palm Beach Towers condominium located at 44 Cocoanut Row, unit 127-B in Palm Beach.
Giuliani and wife Judith Giuliani purchased the 1,272-square foot, two-bedroom condo in February 2004 for $410,000, according to property records.
The unit was one of six properties that became part of the couples contentious, drawn-out and well-publicized divorce. In January 2020, the condo was transferred from joint ownership to Judith Giulianis name alone. The past due taxes, however, are in Rudy Giulianis name, public records show.

So it would be easy for him to make that his official residence and run. He made an announcement about running - but that was before Ivanka did so he may have backed down. As of today, he has not claimed homestead exemption on his Florida condo.

Our republican Senator, in NC, voted to convict. I plan to send him an email saying I will vote for him, though I am a thorough true-blue Democrat. He did the right thing, he has some kind of moral integrity, and I will vote for him to say thank you for doing the right thing. Shouldn't have to vote for a guy for doing the right thing, but we are talking republicans, who almost never do the right thing. How many other Dem votes did the moral republicans get for this? As for the treasonous, traitor ones--good luck since I don't believe prisoners in jail can vote.

(571 posts)I appreciate your wanting to work in service of unity, and I wish for it as much as you, but how do we unify with insurrectionists? How do we come together with those disrespect our Constitution and find propriety in sacking and defiling our Capitol, and threatening our leaders? How do we move on without accountability for all those responsible? To do so is to countenance the actions of the mob and do a disservice to those who fought, were injured, and died protecting those of you in that building that day. Im not sure how someone put in a position to be a leader can live with that.
To not hold Donald Trump responsible for what happened on January 6th is to condone his sedition and attempted coup. From what Ive seen in recent weeks I can only conclude there is one political party that stands in support of democracy while the other stands, for better or worse, with conspiracy theorists, white supremacists, and violent thugs. It appears most people in that party serve in fealty to an individual, as opposed to fidelity to our Constitution. And theres no excuse for that.
Its often said Democracy is fragile, and it is. To bear witness that you and so many of your Republican colleagues have concluded theres no price to be paid, and there should be no sanction for the person who instigated a riot that put your lives, and our democracy, in danger, is unconscionable.
It would be a sad irony for you to engage in jury nullification and to give your imprimatur to rule by mob.
I stand for those who stand for democracy without fear and without equivocation.
I, my family, and our friends now know that if you do not convict Donald Trump for what he has done we cannot count on you to protect us and our fragile democracy. We can only support someone who will.
I promise my family and I will do everything we can, using our voices, volunteering, votes, and as much cash as we can, to get Tim Scott out of office. If it could happen to David Purdue, it can happen to Scott.
