(5,275 posts)The longer I live and learn I move further left. Moderation seems like being somewhat more supportive of the Ruling Class and the Richie Riches.
Look at a year by year breakdown of the highest marginal tax rate. It was quite low under Hoover which before long had people in bread lines. FDR brought us out of that by public work programs and more, financed by jacking up the highest tax rate.....again that rate only applies to income over 10 Million or whatever.
That rate stayed high through Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, and Carter.
Then came Reagan who cut it big time before he left. It has not gone up much since.
BTW, the Ruling Class was bitterly disappointed with Eisenhower. They figured that now they had a Republican back he would bring that rate way down. He did the opposite, it is what largely financed our Freeway System.

(111,558 posts)The problem has always been getting the mushy middle and the conservatives to listen.
You made them listen.
Now we'll have to hold their feet to the fire to make sure your enablers get prosecuted as you sink into well deserved isolation and irrelevance, your crimes not hitting history books until you are long dead.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
