(891 posts)However, as long as the democratic primaries are fair and open, then the Republican Party can be tossed in the sea if its going to stay so awful.
Statistical
(19,264 posts)95%+ of Republicans voted for Trump. For the most part they didn't vote for Biden, they didn't stay away from the polls and not vote, they didn't go third party, they aren't ashamed of Trump.
So while TLP may have helped Biden win their larger goal of excising Trumpism from the GOP did fail. The GOP is now even more strongly than before the Party of Trump. Either Trump will run in 2024 or Trump will be the kingmaker for the 2024 GOP candidate. Any hopes of moderating the GOP and steering it out of crazyland if not dashed against the rocks is at least more of an uphill battle.
The great landslide which proved Trumpish is toxic and politically non-viable needed to reform the GOP didn't happen.

(8,978 posts)I would guess closer to 10%. The fact that Biden consistently garnered a higher percent of votes than down-ballot Democrats suggests a lot of ticket-splitting in his favor, and much less so for Senate, House, governor, and state legislative races. This seemed to be especially true in suburban races, while rural and urban presidential vote distributions were close to what 2016 was.
