In September, Microsoft confirmed it was ending support for Adobe Flash Player on its Chromium-based Edge and legacy Edge browsers as well as Internet Explorer 11 at the end of 2020. But the company also detailed future enterprise support options for customers that need to retain Flash for line-of-business applications.
"Microsoft Edge will allow Adobe Flash Player to load as a plug-in via the Internet Explorer mode feature. Inherently, Internet Explorer 11 will also allow this. Once you make the switch from Microsoft provided Adobe Flash Player, it will be treated as any other third-party plug-in and will not receive Customer Support from Microsoft," Microsoft said at the time.
In the past, Microsoft has worked with Adobe to deliver Flash updates for the browser plug-in in order to ensure end users were protected from exploits and malware targeting Flash Player security flaws. This new update removes Flash Player from Windows devices and cannot be uninstalled, Microsoft says in a new support note.
Microsoft has also detailed two methods that users and admins can follow to continue using Flash Player after the update is installed. Users can reset a device to an earlier system restore point. However, users need to explicitly enable this feature and a system restore point must have been created on the Windows device before the update is applied. The other option is to reinstall Windows without applying the update.

I have Flash disabled per the default on some Chrome browsers, and "ask first" on other machines.
Having Flash disabled is probably more of a problem for organizations which used it for some application on their intranet.

(10,885 posts)I did an Update on 10/14. Since that date, I have been on the phone with Dell India every f*n day and night, often for 10 hours at a time, trying to get my computer operating as it did before the update. I've talked to/worked with at least 17 technicians. I've uninstalled and re-installed Windows virtually every day. Ready to go over the edge much?
I thought we were finally done until I booted up today. Seems to start up quickly enough, everything seems to be where it should be, but what new hell is the 2" wide vertical discolored stripe about 1.5 inches from the right edge of my screen? What a PITA.
I just can't do it tonight. I need to have a night I'm not attached to my phone, watching buffering circles or incremental rising of completion percentages. I need to speak tonight with people who speak English as their first language. Maybe I need to just get off this computer...

(68,667 posts)you can't stop updates now but I have it so they have to ask. Thus I can take precautions. I have reversed problematic updates.

(766 posts)Flash is going away at the end of the year anyway. Even if you still have the plugin, it won't function after the end of the year (this EOL is coded into the plugin itself). You'd have to change your system time to some point in the past...which just tends to cause other problems
