I used to listen to Rush Limbaugh...until I didn't

Back in the days on my Gen X youth, being a rebel in my group was being anti-our parents, and for me, that meant the opposite of liberal, and I had a crush on Alex P. Keaton, lol

As what happens in our youth, I went through a break up. A BAAAAAD break up. Part of what helped me from going over into the abyss was long drives on back roads, where, early on Saturday mornings, a radio show would be on 98 Rock (local Baltimore radio station) where a disc jockey had a segment called "Limbaugh lies".

Now...to back up a bit...my ex boyfriend was very into Limbaugh and so were all of his friends. We had a bond over it...for a minute.

So I would drive around in the mornings, just to distract myself from my heartache, and would amuse myself listening to the disc jockey (his name was Lopez) and would research it when I got home after I'd brewed a cuppa while my computer "handshaked" to the web. LOL...it was even before dsl. I would be eager to prove him wrong, but...

Something started happening...

Lopez was right. WAAAAAAAAY more times than he was wrong. Limbaugh only "works" if you buy into the lie...the original sin...that white men are the victims in everything, and they should be exalted in that. They DESERVE to follow through with each and every spiteful thing, because that is fighting back and finishing what "THEY" started. (I promise you I am fluent in red neck, and I am not alone on this board)

So...in time...life starts to move on, and I realize my parents aren't wrong about everything, and that my hippie background is pretty fucking cool, but one day, on my way to lunch from work (I normally packed a lunch or ordered in, but this day, I just felt like a drive for that hour) I turn on Limbaugh and he says, I'm paraphrasing,"Folks, Jackie Kennedy was buried today. You know, I wonder if the grave that she is in now is as cold as the bed she shared with slain President Kennedy. Hey, not my president, folks. He is not *my* president".

I reached down and turned the dial off on my old clunker teenage/early 20's beater car, and NEVER listened to that mother fucker again. Through my "Limbaugh lies" research, I found a site called something like "Rush Limbaugh is a lying Nazi pig" which turned into bartcop.com

One radio host saved me from another.

RIP Lopez

RIP Bartcop

Limbaugh? Not so much

Trucks and tractors with radios tuned to hate radio changed rural America.

I met him at the Bartfest West Party in Las Vegas in 2002. That website kept me sane and laughing through the Bush/Cheney years.

These times, however, are way worse. What I wouldn’t give to have him with us now.

to pass time during the many long drives I had to take at a younger age and before I was politically astute

I didn't need someone else to inform me he was full of shit tho, that came soon enough on my own

you see the same mean-spiritedness and ignorance and slavish followers in Trump
