"If the Democrats expand the SCOTUS, who is the say the Republicans won't expand it when they get the majority?"
I keep hearing people saying this. And supposedly it's "fair" people like Dan Abrams. My answer to that is, so what. Maybe that is a good thing if the SCOTUS grows. I think that would lead to a few outcomes.
#1 I think the more judges, the less likely we will get those partisan decisions that come down to 5-4 split that we have seen over the last 30 years.
#2 It won't matter as much when a Justice dies in office or we are hoping that they can just hang in there just a little longer.
#3 Maybe if its gets big enough, everyone including the American people can be like "ok guys this is getting ridiculous, maybe we really needed some court reform (i.e age limits, mandatory retirements, etc...)

(1,406 posts)fall where they may. For once, we should not give a damn and go on and do what we need to legislate good sound laws and get the SCOTUS we need to uphold the laws that are passed.

Good. Couldn't happen to more deserving bunch.

And by the way, several court nominees might need to have new hearings where their original confirmation hearing was a farce. Feel free to fill in the blanks as to who they are.

(4,167 posts)there were plenty of SCOTUS justices who were picked by Republicans whose judicial philosophy ended up being liberal...But conservatives were upset about that and ended creating organizations and putting out a list of their vetted candidates to the point that we will never get someone like Souter again.
