McConnell moves to delay Senate return after 3 lawmakers test positive for COVID-19

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will move to delay the Senate's return for two weeks after three lawmakers tested positive for COVID-19.

McConnell said the Senate will not return until Oct. 19 and will only meet in pro forma sessions for the next two weeks, allowing a smaller number of lawmakers to be on Capitol Hill. Previously-scheduled floor activity will take place after Oct. 19.

McConnell said in a statement he "[intends] to obtain a consent agreement" to have the chamber go on hiatus until Oct. 19, meaning Democrats can object to the move.

A spokesperson for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

Just what Moscow Mitch needs, more time off.

it will be even harder for repubs to push that. many will be thinking about trying to keep their party intact post trump.

They have no honor and no scruples. Another SCOTUS seat is their pot of gold.

Now, if a few of them defect, that could help, esp. if they're on the Judiciary Committee.

Maybe Graham's. But McConnell will get it done this year. He'd do it January 19th.

and let Biden to nominate. I can see how Romney may do it and maybe even senators who will lose.
Our focus is to postpone by all means as much as possible.

Dems can delay, delay, delay until the election. Given how slow the Senate moves in general, losing 2 weeks of votes and committee meetings is brutal.

This is amazing to me - Covid-19, which Republicans have downplayed all year, is now getting close to fucking up everything they had planned. Trump is in the hospital, Republican Senators are testing positive left and right, and now this. If they delay until the 19th, there is no way they can confirm her before the election.

He was at the stupid garden party the other day. And you know his ass was right up trump's butt.

Those covidiots. Can't say we didn't warn them. It isn't about fear or losing freedom. It's about following scientific evidence.

Republicans are more concerned about the economy than they are human life.
