On Saturday NFAS is coming to Lafayette LA for a demonstration because Clay Higgins

posted a picture of them wearing their gear and threatened their lives on Facebook.

(in an interview posted on YouTube)

Higgins told John Jay Fitzgerald Johnson in a phone call he had misunderstood the purpose of the Not F---ing Around Coalition, which Johnson founded within the past year with the stated mission to protect, self-police and educate Black communities.

One month ago, Higgins posted a photo of Johnson and NFAC members threatened [sic] to “drop any 10 of you where you stand.” He advised supporters in a subsequent post to stay tuned for the “time to gear up, mount up and roll out.” Facebook removed those posts for inciting violence.

But Higgins told Johnson on Tuesday that he has since come to admire the militia leader, and that he would meet Johnson in person at NFAC’s demonstration in Lafayette on Saturday.

(Higgins also invited Johnson to his home where he has an office. Johnson said in an interview, also posted on YouTube, he preferred a public meeting instead of a private meeting. Higgins also promised Johnson he would be armed only with a Bible when they would meet.)

“You convey some things that are very impressive to me, just as a man, regarding your calm, your poised approach to this very volatile situation. Not just Lafayette. Our nation needs healing right now,” Higgins said to Johnson.

Johnson recorded and published a video of the 20-minute call. Higgins’ spokesman said the congressman was not aware that Johnson would do so. . . .

“We are in new territory people,” Johnson told his viewers after hanging up with Higgins. “Y’all have to understand what you’re witnessing. A sitting congressman has had to apologize to Black power.”

...

The NFAC is planning to march through downtown Lafayette under a permit granted by Lafayette Consolidated Government. Johnson has said the demonstration is in response to Higgins’s threats, as well as a show of solidarity with Black residents following the Lafayette Police killing of Trayford Pellerin on Aug. 21.

....At least two other self-proclaimed militia groups have told local authorities they intend to show up, according to Sheriff Mark Garber. . . . ( oh boy)

But wait there's more:

Higgins rescinds his agreement to meet with NFAS leader.

Higgins called Johnson on Sept. 29 to make plans to meet. Johnson live streamed the conciliatory call, and Higgins said in a statement Thursday he thought the call was private.
“I reached out in the interest of peace and reason. I offered a bridge of man to man communication. He burned that bridge,” Higgins said.

Higgins admitted on the call that he previously misunderstood the NFAC, and he praised Johnson's "poised approach to this very volatile situation." But Higgins did not apologize, and the agreement to meet was not conditioned on any terms that he would do so. Johnson told reporters on Wednesday that he expected Higgins to apologize in their meeting.

Higgins said in his statement that he has nothing to apologize for. He said Johnson and media reports misconstrued his intent.

“Nowhere in that conversation did I apologize, nor do I have any intention to do so,” Higgins said.

Higgins’s statement on Thursday did not include any additional threats. He said he respects NFAC’s right to peacefully assemble. Johnson has said his group will not initiate violence, and will follow all laws.

What did Higgins say on Facebook?

"Look, fair warning. If this shows up, (referencing the pictures of NFAS and BLM) we'll consider the armed presence a real threat. We being, We, the People, of Louisiana. One way ticket fellas. Have your affairs in order. Me?...I wouldn't even spill my beer. I'd drop any 10 of you where you stand.Because some of We, like me... We, are SWAT. Nothing personal. We just eliminate the threat. We don't care what color you are. We don't care if you're left or right. If you show up like this, if We recognize threat...you won't walk away. That's not a challenge, fellas. It's a promise. We don't want to see your worthless ass nor do we want to make your Mothers cry. You're the ones threatening, if you show yourselves, aggressively natured [sic] and armed in my presence. In my neighborhood. Where I work. Anywhere close enough to put my family or my fellow citizens in danger. That is where your journey will end. Fast. How fast? 1,450 FPS fast."

This message surprised Johnson when he became aware of it. He wanted to emphasize his militia group was law abiding. Higgins perhaps misunderstood what they were about and they had a very mutually respectful conversation about the situation. After all, Higgins supports the right to legally bear arms and so does NFAS. Their conversation was recorded and posted online. That was what Higgins didn't like. Because he posted the conversation Johnson "burned the bridge?" What is the "bridge?" His ego won't allow him to be exposed as someone who backed down which is exactly what he did. And he should have. During the Trayford Pellerin protests, a white, heavily armed militia group showed up in town to "protect" people. Higgins didn't threaten them. Both groups are professing the same reasons for showing up with weapons.

So here we go. More than one heavily armed militia group are coming to town on Saturday. Police will also be monitoring the situation because guns are prohibited in certain areas (school zones) downtown. Higgins is swaggering around, playing the tough guy and reneging on his promise to meet the NFAS. Instead of defusing the situation, he'll pour on some gas. He is up for election and this is getting him free publicity.

Geez, I just wish we had mature, reasonable leadership in government in Lafayette, but no, we can't have that. He use to make videos for "Crime Stoppers" and had to be warned to stop using unprofessional comments about suspects. Those videos were how he made a name for himself and he began using his uniform for personal profit by making commercials which was against police policy.

Salon reported in an investigative article that during this period, Higgins "negotiated paid speaking appearances with other police departments. In one email, Higgins discussed his request for a speaker’s fee that included shopping money for his wife and part of the fuel for his friend’s private plane." He asked for cash payments. In addition, Higgins conducted his private business via email on "his government email account during work hours without the permission or knowledge of his supervisors. Higgins also appears to have attempted to conceal his earnings from the IRS in order to avoid wage garnishment for unpaid taxes. Whether those actions constitute tax fraud is unclear."

I'm not going to argue with them. Tell me where they are and that's exactly where I won't be.
