The only folks who should be angry with Chris are members of the Trump campaign - for not saving Trump from himself.
Chris pointed out Trumps bad behavior and violation of the rules on multiple occasions. He allowed Trump enough rope to gang himself and thats exactly what happened.
Trumps terrible performance and constant outbursts amplified and contrasted with Bidens relatively sane, collected and prepared performance.
Chris moderation allowed the world to see exactly what we needed to see. We should be thanking him.

(6,931 posts)But not going to fight over it. The Biden camp needs to renegotiate the rules for the next debate.
How would muzzling Trump help Biden? The world needs to see how unhinged this guy is, and they need to see a calm, cool and collected Biden standing next to him in stark contrast.
Muzzling Trump would diminish that contrast.

(4,131 posts)What would you have him do? Get up on stage and drag Trump off by the ear?
If Chris had somehow been able to enforce the rules and muzzle Trump, it would have been far better... for Trump.

(4,131 posts)That isn't something I could ever support.
Your quaint sensibilities being offended pales in comparison to what voters can learn from watching Trumps behavior.

(4,131 posts)The people need to see Trump for what he is - not a censored, muzzled version.
The debate was a huge victory for Biden primarily because it served to display the stark contrast between Trump's raving, unhinged madness and Biden's relatively cool, calm and prepared performance.
If we censor what Trump really is and force him to behave in a more socially acceptable manner it will diminish the contrast between the two.
That would be doing Joe a disservice - the contrast is exactly what he needs.

(4,131 posts)Trump doesn't have positions he has outbursts, reactions and impotent rage. Allowing him to present himself as if he has positions is doing a disservice to the country.

(19,066 posts)What else was he going to do, he literally stopped the debate several times to chastise one of the candidates. Short of calling the debate off and walking off stage, I'm not sure what else he could have done.

(9,068 posts)I know some have an issue with the framing of one or two questions. Okay, point taken. I agree that the election question could have been dealt with differently but it did show Trump and his conspiracy laden mind at work.
I can't understand why though, people would have an issue with him not being able to rein in Trump. He actually did a few times by shouting over him until Trump stopped.
What other ways did Wallace have to shut him up?
No one I know of could stop Trump blabbering in his manic state. Saying Wallace was incompetent for not being perfect is too much in my opinion.

...[Wallace] The District resident says his party affiliation is driven by simple pragmatism: "The reason I'm a registered Democrat is that in Washington, D.C., there is really only one party," Wallace told us yesterday. "If you want a say in who's going to be the next mayor or councilman, you have to vote in the Democratic primary...
Wallace is a regular at his local polling place, and says he's voted for members of both parties. "Look, some people think [journalists] shouldn't vote at all -- I think that's a little silly. . . . However I vote personally, I think I'm professional enough that it doesn't have anything to do with the way I cover the news.
