Since Hillary's Leaving

Since Hillary has said she won't be Secretary of State in Obama's second term, I was thinking about who might replace her. Back in 2008, right after the election, I suggested that John Kerry might be good in that job, and I still think so. I'd really like to see him in that position. Who else do you think would make a good Secretary of State?

I hate to open up a senate seat and give a republican a chance to move in. Why not someone like Evan Bayh?

He's known and trusted around the world and has brokered the release of US citizens held in some really bad places by truly outrageous people.

Even Stupid used him when things got really tough with N. Korea.

All the scandals the local gutter press trumped up against him to get our Texas teabagger governor in have died an ignominious death. He's available, he's competent, and he'd be a very good SOS.

But I prefer Kerry. He knows his stuff and has tons of experience. He took over for Biden on the SFRC. I know there is a risk with the Senate seat but with Scott Brown acting like an ass perhaps Mass voters will realize going Republican is always a mistake.

Normally you don't put a military person in that job, but Powell and Haig held the position, so there is some precedent.

Clark certainly has the Gravitas for the job, and probably has sufficient humility/diplomacy too.

I like it. I'd like to see him in a leading role.

At age 67, it isn't completely out of the question for him to be a candidate for President in 2016 as well.

It's kind of outside the box at the moment, and my instinct tells me he would Mr. Clark would be really good at that job.
