A handful of Green Bay Packers fans protesting today outside Lambeau Field say the NFLs use of replacement officials caused the Seattle Seahawks to beat Green Bay on Monday night.
Im disappointed with the integrity of the game, Tyler Detke, 22, of Green Bay said this morning as he held green and yellow signs along Lombardi Avenue in front of the stadium atrium.

Detke believes a Hail Mary pass on the last play of the game from Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was intercepted in the endzone by Packers safety M.D. Jennings. However, the play was ruled a touchdown for Seahawks receiver Golden Tate, leading Seattle to a 14-12 win. Both players appeared to be jostling for possession of the football.
The referee ruling has sparked national debate about the NFLs use of replacement officials.

(36,281 posts)You probably couldn't get these people to give a rat's buttocks about real injustice, but they'll PROTEST over a football game? WTF?

(99,624 posts)I may be venting about the call. But I am also standing up the the working class refs that were locked out. They are not on strike. Just like the billionaire owners did the players last year. The NBA, the NHL,... Think about that please.

(36,281 posts)...and I'm reasonably sure most of those folks weren't protesting the lockout per se-- they were protesting the outcome of the Packers game. I'll applaud any time people come out to support labor. I just don't think that's what was happening here. But in any event, I didn't mean to criticize you for posting the OP, rather I'm dismayed that these folks didn't stand up for the locked out officials BEFORE their dispute interfered with what's really important, i.e. football games.

(9,186 posts)The NFL wants to be like a right to work state. They want the right to bust unions (refs first, then players) and have the right to pay them as little as possible.
That aside, Go Seahawks!

(33,334 posts)It's been so long since you got screwed it must really hurt.
We have been screwed so long that we're numb:
The Mariners
Oklahoma City stealing the Supersonics
Superbowl XL.
In fact, we've been screwed so much that we aren't even happy about winning that game.
The only pleasure I'm taking from this is seeing another American Sacred Cow debased. Because I'm a Debaser:

(3,419 posts)had bad calls this season. The big thing here is you and the rest of the millions of football fans have 13 games left. Time to move on. The packers should not have let it come down to a single play of the game to decide the win and then whine.
The packer fans here in Wisconsin always whine about the officials this loss is nothing new.

Want to protest injustices? Protest the fact that 1% of people in this country is controlling 99% of the money. Priorities, people. We need them.

(100,068 posts)As much as I love that movie this is not the place for a reference. The situation in Seattle last just shows how fucked up the lockout between the owners and referee's union is and last night made the situation 1,000,000 worse. I suggest doing some reading before posting a comment like that again.

And who is going to bet next weekend with this kind of unpredictable stuff in the mix.

(14,275 posts)Here's an alternative the Packers could try - win by a large enough margin so that it won't matter when the ref's screw up. That's what Democrats have to do at the polls.

(2,952 posts)...that was putting up 35pts a game last season.....had gods gift to QB's guiding them to 16-0 and the inevitable super bowl win....clinging to a narrow lead against a good but probably not playoff bound Seahawks team? Methinks packer fans should get over it for two reasons(all political aspects aside).....
1) bad calls have happened since day one...it's happened in bigger games...the 79 AFC playoffs(oilers at steelers) comes to mind....
2)every team in the league is going through the same problem, and the same potential for a Crappy ending....
stop crying because Seattle did a Good job of shutting your all powerful packers down and kept the game winnable.....welcome to the basement of the northern division...you have 13 games to work your way out of it....
