Unfuckingbelievable!

This is unbelievable. I was hoping GB wouldn't come back out.

(29,676 posts)coming back out on the field. I'm originally from WI and I'm proud of them for doing just that but...
Jennings had the ball. He caught it, had it in both hands, pulled it to his chest, landed, hit the ground, and still maintained control possession. There is no simultaneous possession in this instance.
Jennings was hosed.

(37,573 posts)than when the refs blew the coin toss in overtime and the Steelers lost?
More bizarre than when the quarterback won the toss and announced "we want the ball and we are going to score" and a few plays later, threw a touchdown pass - to the other team?

(9,527 posts)costing San Diego the win because even though the play was reviewable, the whistle resulted in the wrong team getting possession?
The refs have the problem of trying to make calls in real time that then get shown on tv in super slow motion and high definition. Unfortunately sometimes they make the wrong call. Most often the wrong calls tend to balance out and don't cost a team the game. Sometimes they do.
Remember that because the call on the field was a touchdown, they had to see indisputable proof to overturn the call via replay. I think there's a case to be made that when the Seahawks player hit the ground, on his back, being touched by a Packers player, he was down by contact and both players had a legitimate grip on the ball. And the tie goes to the offense.
As for an offensive interference penalty, that's rarely called under any circumstances and it's really hard to call it in that situation. Because all of the players have a right to the ball and all are looking for it, it's hard to say which shoving is legal and which is illegal. So most anything will be ignored on that play.
Additionally the Packers played the pass strategically incorrectly. They should be working to bat the ball down rather than trying to intercept the pass.

(10,129 posts)And the camera angle from the front clearly shows Tate had both hands on the ball from the instant it got there as well.

(24,853 posts)Plant your feet, use two hands between the opposing player's shoulder blades, PUSH, then jump. That's against the rules. I HAVE seen pass interference called on Hail Mary plays.
Watch the way the Green Bay player gets caught off guard. Most players are ready and braced for incidental contact in that situation. He wasn't.

(592 posts)I really did laugh out loud ... As a Lion fan... I had to post this one on my FB...especially since I live in the U.P. of Michigan and we have more Packer fans here than Lion fans... the FB page is ful of livid Packer fans... their heads are exploding! They forget that frikken Seattle sacked Rodgers like 3lbs of potatoes!
Thanks for the post!

(2,424 posts)Is the only reason this Seahawk fan is not going to apologize.
I only wish it had happened to the Steelers instead of the Packers. Then true Karma would be realized.
Super Bowl XL demonstrated that the real referees dictate outcomes as well.
Feel bad for the Packers though. I feel kinda soiled. Something Steeler fans never felt.
Screw it......Go Seahawks!!!

(21,925 posts)As bad as the officiating has been lately, it seems to be affecting all the games and teams evenly. Blown calls are going both ways. I'm convinced the regular refs have either conscious or unconscious biases favoring certain teams and disfavoring others.

(22,143 posts)The refs weren't merely incompetent in that one, they seemed intent on giving it to the Steelers. I was a big fan of Jim Zorn and Steve Largent as a kid so I was pulling hard for the Hawks in that one. They got robbed, blatantly so.

(501 posts)The booth worker is a full-time NFL employee, not a scab of a ref. The final call came from the booth since all scores are reviewed in the booth.
Blaming this on scabs is just stupid and makes no sense.

(52,172 posts)It would seem all the refs would be in the union.
Yooperman
(592 posts)The refs don't make that call. It is out of their hands.
What makes the difference is what call is made on the field. If they make a call for a touchdown..it will automatically be reviewed and will either be overturned, confirmed or let it stand. Overturned means they have conclusive visual proof of a mistake... confirmed is they have conclusive visual proof they made the correct call and the last one "Upheld" means they didn't have enough proof to overturn the call.
I suspect that is what they determined here. Not enough visual evidence to overturn.
It isn't the first game lost by a poor call..won't be the last ... even if the regular refs return.

(29,150 posts)Yes, all scoring plays (and turnovers, and all plays in the last two minutes) are reviewed by the replay official in the booth. However, that review is only to determine whether or not to initiate an official review by the referee. If they determine that the play should be reviewed, then the official review is performed by the ref.
Yooperman
(592 posts)I was under the impression that the booth officials determine the overturn or not.

(29,150 posts)The booth worker doesn't actually make the final decision when there is an official review. Rather, they decide (on turnovers, scoring plays, and all plays during the final two minutes of either half) whether or not the play is close enough for an official review. But the review itself is performed by the official on the field. In this case, the ref said that after review, the play stands. That would seem to indicate an official review, in which case, I think, the decision to review the play would be the booth assistant's call and the decision that the play stood would be the ref's.
obamanut2012
(26,181 posts)ie all scores get reviewed by the booth!
fishwax
(29,150 posts)For the record, all scoring plays (along with all turnovers and all plays within the last two minutes) are reviewed by the booth to determine whether they are worthy of an official review. If they decide it is worth an official review, then that review is performed by the ref on the field. So if there *is* a review, then the referee, not the booth, has the final word. And that is what happened last night.
