99% humidity here in Eugene. Around 50F. No wind. Fog is so thick I can barely make out the house across the street. I went out to my garden to pick beans and the smell of smoke was mostly absent (or Im getting inured to it). High humidity and lower temperatures are a welcome respite for the fire fighters. The radio just issued an alert. An area northeast of Eugene just went from Level 3 alert (Go Now!) to Level 2 (be ready to leave). I think that means those people will be allowed to return to their homes. Rain is in the forecast for Monday night and Tuesday.

(11,659 posts)But well take it. And now search and recovery crews may be able to get into some areas. Gruesome work. Im afraid the final death toll may be shocking.

(261 posts)Like you, I could not see the house across the street this morning. The air quality is 516, which is hazardous. I had bags packed for evacuation as one of the fires was only 10 miles from us, but I unpacked those this morning. am looking forward to the rain tomorrow. I saw and heard a goose flying overhead this morning while taking our dogs for a short walk. He looked and sounded so confused.
My daughter lives a block from the big fire in Sumner, WA. Their house is fine, but the stress and smoke put her in the ER this morning for dehydration. She is home now, thank goodness, after an IV. I am so ready for normal - except we still have the pandemic.

(73 posts)I guess it depends where in Eugene you are, but here in Southeast Eugene the reading is still in the 420 range. Not good at all, unfortunately. I am crossing every appendage in my body for the promised rain this week.

(2,412 posts)I live in Portland in a neighborhood adjacent to Forest Park, the USAs largest wild park within a city limit and covering 20 square miles. It is a tinderbox. We had two small fires this week that were quickly put out. Our local homeless peoples newspaper sent people up the homeless camps its free pizza to discourage campers from cooking dinners outdoors. Now our neighbors are contributing to the pizza fund. It is very sad that we do not yet have enough housing for all in spite of passing a levy for it last fall. But this is something we can do for campers right now.

(13,571 posts)The Elk Rock fire Wednesday night was in my front yard, a stone's throw away. Five fire jurisdictions, three fireboats and 800 feet of hose.
