General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI again ask that those who post David Packman clips please LABEL them. IMHO, the meager
info they contain is never worth having to endure the manner of presentation.
I ALWAYS feel "Rick-Rolled" when I click on one of those and I ALWAYS click off in disgust.

(39,409 posts)The thread titles under someone not named David Packman are clickbait; if you knew it was him most people wouldnt bother.

(9,218 posts)A lot of content creators on YouTube are more rewarded if they can streeeeeeetch things out to ten minutes or more. It creates for so much fluff and talking around the point. (Don't forget to like and subscribe!)
I have a lot of different creators on a lot of different subjects in my subscriptions, but as soon as they start falling into the talk around trap, I unsubscribe. It's a shame. If it takes you six minutes to say your piece, take six minutes, man. I have things to do, too.

(22,545 posts)YouTubers make their videos a minimum of 10 minutes to get an additional ad break in the middle of the video.

(9,218 posts)So many posts are just copies and pastes of a random Twitter account. Half the time, it's just a sentence or two. I don't get why that requires an entire post unto itself. There's usually very little content in it. Feels like people are just running up post counts or something. I read things on Reddit I like all the time. I wouldn't drag every post I like from there over here.
I don't get why it's a thing. But, like you, I just skip immediately.
PatSeg
(47,868 posts)I don't need that much commentary when the actual clip is pretty self-explanatory. Packman's comments add nothing of significance. I get more than enough commentary from MSNBC.

(45,727 posts)OP just wants the video clips to be labeled as such. I'm wary of clickbait Youtube videos that try to hide what they are. So a DUer would think a video is going to show something, or maybe a news clip or whatever, but it turns out to be David Pakman talking about it. It's similar for Egberto Willies and other liberal talk show clips.

(33,621 posts)...I just hit the "back" key. It only takes a second
There are a lot of self declared internet "liberal" "pundits" with whom I disagree, notably that Cenk person.
Here and there, I'll watch one who appears to be amusing and witty, but in general, no, we have the "back" key to simply address our tastes and views.

(42,862 posts)The bait looks interesting (ie: something outrageous a public official said) and in the 10-minute video, it's a full 7 minutes of Packman droning on and on and on (so many words to say so little) and a 30-second clip of whatever it was he was talking about... and a two minute ad for the sponsor.
It's total SPAM.
Alberto's thumbnails make it look as though it's a genuine MSNBC or CNN clip... but when you click on it, it's not what was shown. Instead it's the Alberto show with more talk-talk-talk and perhaps 15-seconds of CNN or MSNBC's content... then more talk-talk-talk.
ABSOLUTELY, it's clickbait. It's cheap and it's deceptive and it's dishonest.
These youtube businesses know what they're doing. They PURPOSELY CHOOSE THE DECEPTIVE THUMBNAIL IMAGE to make it appear as though the content is actually from CNN or MNSBC or CSPAN. But as soon as you click, you get Rick-Rolled.
Gotcha again!

(42,862 posts)Alberto Willis does the same thing. Deceptive click-bait thumbnails... but the video shown is NOT what it appears to be.
Obviously they get paid (and ranked higher) for every click... whether it's deceptive or not. Then Youtube takes that data and their AI uses the number of clicks to determine that they should recommend it to others.
People who use deceptive thumbnails are tricking the viewers and they are deceiving Youtube.
It's a total scam.
