Meanwhile..an asteroid 2x size of Egypt pyramid to pass Earth on Sept. 6

Our #PlanetaryDefense experts are not worried about asteroid 2010 FR and you shouldn’t be either because it has zero chance of hitting Earth. 🌎 It will safely pass by our planet on Sept. 6 more than 4.6 million miles away—that’s more than 19 times the distance of our Moon!

1. Don't challenge the universe by saying never. It's 2020.

3. That's right! It happened say...66M years ago so there's that

Oh well, if go--we all go, que no? [Right?]

66 million years ago
The date of the impact coincides precisely with the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary (commonly known as the "K–Pg boundary", slightly more than 66 million years ago, and a widely accepted theory is that worldwide climate disruption from the event was the cause of the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event, a mass ...

7. I'm old fashioned. I still call it the K-T boundary.

Anyway, that one was the size of Everest, and we would definitely know if something like that were headed for us in this day and age (I hope).

Anyway, it might do us some good if it happened. We could probably do with a good kick up the pants.

10. Sure!

If the asteroid has a high iron content!
If it's mostly silicon & carbon compounds, you scheme falls apart!
But, you can give it a shot!!

6. Thank you for adding the 'don't worry' part.

This is the year 2020 - plagues, locusts, fires, hurricanes, domestic terrorists, traitorous politicians etc etc. An asteroid slamming into Earth would be totally believable.

9. Halley's Comet came closer than that in 837

https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/asteroids-comets-and-meteors/comets/1p-halley/in-depth/

3 million miles away; and at about 9.3 by 5 miles, that's probably more than 100,000 times the mass of this one.
