They didnt carry the first hour last night either. That first hour was really impressive from a production standpoint alone.
9 PM
CBS - FBI
ABC - What Would You Do?
NBC - Americas Got Talent
The networks still reach a lot of people.

(34,857 posts)The networks wanted to do only an hour - but the White House opposed such an idea.
This was coming. I think we're seeing the future of conventions.

(1,187 posts)Especially in this format, it's hard to imagine the average person sitting and watching a political commercial for two hours. An hour lets them bring in the heavy hitters. Those who are care enough about politics to want to see the full thing will find it on the cable news channels, the internet, or C-SPAN. People still on the fence are probably low information voters and would only tune in to the headline speakers (if that).
The whole thing is exceptionally well-produced, and there are some wonderful testimonials and performances by people in the first hour, but there are certain realities about the electorate.
