Melania Trump's brilliant Rose Garden idea

(CNN)To: Melania Trump
From: Michelle Slatalla
Re: Rose Garden Renovation

I saw your announcement about renovating the White House Rose Garden. Great idea! This is a fine opportunity to give America's most famous garden a long-overdue facelift.

The Rose Garden is an American treasure and a symbol of our country's can-do attitude. President Ulysses Grant once tried to grow vegetables there. John F. Kennedy celebrated the safe return of astronauts in the garden. Tricia Nixon got married there. And your husband famously celebrated his response to the Covid crisis there: "If we didn't do testing, instead of testing over 40 million people, if we did half the testing we would have half the cases."

Big time snark.

I'm still annoyed about the stupid tennis pavilion that was so obviously intended to destroy Obama's basketball court and has never been finished or used afaik.

which would have been approved by Jackie Kennedy. As we all know, Jackie did not know how to do tacky.

If this is actually true, then I won't be concerned - face it folks we have far worse things to worry about. It's an easy fix for FLOTUS Jill Biden.

I need to take a bit of time and look up the original design and try to find this new one.

This is paid for by donations which is a relief.

As someone once said, "we'll see what happens"

This link is for the proposal and a fascinating history of the garden. I only scanned the important parts on the document and it is long and sleep inducing but it looks like Melania has nothing to do with design and is just the honorary chair.

This is a great relief. I would not trust her and her very strange taste if the plans had not gone through the proper procedures.

Interesting note: When JFK went to Europe, he was impressed with the gardens he saw at official residences, and when he came home, he authorized the renovation in the 1960s.

Roses do need replacement over time. I recognized many of the ones which were also in my aunt's rose garden, and the rose garden in the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens.

This may have been a project which was conceived during the Obama administration and finally made it through all the committees, etc.

Anyway those of you who care to bother, enjoy the documentation---make coffee before you start.

a long time. I'm also glad that Melania didn't choose the design. Above all because, besides questions about her own ability and taste, if she could her husband almost certainly would weigh in.

I'm happy to see planners are committed to preservation of a beautiful and very useful historic landmark. Two proposed plans with very sensitive improvements are on page 127, in the middle of discussion of the proposed changes.

Given the unique location and historical importance of the landscape,
two treatment alternatives are provided in the following pages for the
CPWH’s consideration (illustrated on pp. 136-143). The two alternatives,
while similar, offer slightly different levels of treatment and furnishes the
CPWH with options for preservation and rehabilitation of the landscape.
Suggestions for restoration are, on occasion, included in the recommended
treatments for the Garden. These instances are clearly specified. At no
point was reconstruction treatment considered as the most appropriate or
necessary treatment for any work in the Rose Garden.

Melania's Rose garden project was in the pipeline for sometime but only announced now because landscape improvements are generally scheduled in August when first families are vacationing .

The renovations will last 2-3 weeks and make it impossible to use as a campaign backdrop.

Lololol.
