Churchill nailed us cold.
He said something like this, Americans will always do the right thing, once they have exhausted all other options.
That's what we are doing now with the virus.

1. The evidence connecting Churchill to the saying is late and very weak:

7. Yep!
Although, to be fair, Britain struggled a bit to get engaged in the early stages of WW2. (Of course, it wasn't entirely their fault--there was the fiasco in Belgium). I almost hate to point that out, since they were tremendous heroes at most stages of the war and bore the brunt of many brutal aerial and sea attacks.
The British are our greatest allies. We could use a Churchill now, or an FDR. |

12. With hindsight
It is always easy to see which wars a country should have joined immediately and which should have been avoided altogether.

6. I have no doubt that Churchill did say something to that effect.
He was frustrated by the fact that the US Congress was so reluctant to come to the aid of its allies in fighting the Nazis. They tried everything until FDR finally got his way. Of course, Pearl Harbour helped it along.....

5. Still better than never doing the right thing at all.
Churchill was a vicious racist who opposed independence for India, and never admitted that it was the right thing to do.

10. Many Brits want to take
….down his statues now or at least teach the truth about him.
His white supremacy views were lethal, not just for India, but for Africa. Responsible for the death and suffering of thousands. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/not-his-finest-hour-the-dark-side-of-winston-churchill-2118317.html |

13. That's what we're doing right now with racism and antiracist blowback.
The Churchillian view: Let the white trash the Europeans sent over here do the world's work for them. Use them, disinform them of "history." Make them figure it out. And don't help them, just look on in mockery and pity. It's a long history.
It's the cage they helped put us in and now that we're trying to get out of it, their NAZI RACIST tool is using force to keep that status quo of the banksters' racial capitalist power hierarchy. We need to talk reparations around here. |
