Extending the $600 benefit is a disincentive for people to return to work, and so many people are returning to work that we don't need to extend the benefit.
Huh?

(7,349 posts)Restaurants for example. If a person refuses work, unemployment ends. If a person works 1-4 hour shift Per week making $100.00 in tips (wages are pitiful so not even worth mentioning here), how can they live?
Republicans just suck!

(10,281 posts)I had a 40 hr a week job years ago and they had a downturn. A lot of people got let go but some of us went down to 2 days a week. We could file for unemployment and get partial UI payments based on what wed have been getting at 40 hrs. I brought home a little more per week than what Id have gotten if I was fully laid off and kept my benefits do it was a good deal. Provided you could expect to go back to full time. While I was working reduced hours and getting unemployment it was draining my UI account. If I got laid off completely my benefit wouldnt last as long since Id been taking money from my account. I dont remember exactly how it all works but your benefit is based on a certain time period and how much you earned during that time period. And the reference quarters were sometime in the past, like a year ago or something. I was lucky and used my extra time off to look for a different job and found one. Of course right now is not a good time to be looking for a job.
