(38,187 posts)Bad joke, I know, but I couldn't resist. Things are so dire right now. Just wanted a laugh. If one person laughs at it, it was worth it to me.
I have the Latest Threads tab load on startup and go from there, as well.

(38,187 posts)It's depressing out there right now. Anything toward humor is good to take out minds off it.

(9,665 posts)than in anything else I do during the day. Yes, I am addicted to this place.
DU IS my homepage, on both my phone and my computer. Computer used to be my main source for DU, but now it's the phone.
Phone is bad. I spend way too much time on here. Can't seem to get anything else done. Then again, the country is pretty much shut down so there's nothing else to do.
Might as well spend my day with like-minded people! Intelligent people, people who possess critical thinking skills. And wicked senses of humor!

(22,104 posts)All posts show up there from all Groups and Forums. That way, I get a taste of everything our fellow-DUers are posting.

(65,567 posts)I check out science occasionally, too.
Sports & musicians groups have been slow, so not a lot of time there.

Usually do this while watching TV, especially cable news in the evening.

Spend most of my time in GD, followed by visits to The Lounge, Video & MM, LBN, Editorials and occasionally will pop into other topics.
I bookmark threads that I think are prescient and threads that have a lot of information that I might need to refer back to in future debates with repub. family members and others. I also bookmark threads that are great reference tools and those are just really interesting reads and/or great rants.

(4,410 posts)and otherwise visit forums and pages that float my boat. Because of all you good people, I feel so aware of what's going on in our country and issues facing our nation and the international community. I'm not a lurker and generally comment more often than I post a new thread. Thanks for great conversations that are filled with so much knowledge, affection, sharing our vulnerabilities, and caring for each other when the SHTF, and when someone can't help but celebrate! Thanks Admins for a wonderful platform of connection!

I'd call myself very liberal progressive. Maybe a touch of Leftism. I'm in general proud to call myself a Democrat.
I'd call myself a semi-activist from the time I was ?15. I'm 67 now.
I remember seeing DU back in the early 00's. While I've been on the Internet since '95 it's not been from home till now - free or paid elsewhere. I've finally have wifi on my first smart phone vs basic cellphones previously. I got it just as NYC was locking down. I figured I'd need more connection under these circumstances.
I've been on a band fan site for a looong time that has a polititical off topic forum. The band itself is liberal plus and has activist history. So a polititical forum is a natural!
But between being mostly ensconced at home due to covid19, and while listening to NPR and WNYC-AM/FM Local Public Radio for decades, there's often not enough posting on that forum with all the increased craziness this past year.
Then I remembered DU.
Were you still around, and 'ta da' yes you were/are!
So I either go to General Discussions, or Latest News first. Then DU Lounge for some fun. I'm trying to check videos, articles, too, now.
There's lots of history, sciences, art and stuff I've seen and want to read too.
I'm so glad you've lasted so long, and that I remembered you!

(24,902 posts)My first incarnation was as Old and In the Way. Had to update my account as I had stopped using the original e-mail address that I logged on to DU with.
We are the same age....man, what a long strange trip it's been! I used to think Nixon was the worst President in my lifetime. I had to update my thinking to reflect the mess/crimes committed by W. But I doubt we will ever see another PINO worse than the present occupier of the WH.

1968 was like a free fall!
Nixon was awful.
W was not as smart, clever as Nixon, but he had Chenney.
But who would have thought we could get some one as bad as drump, um... with all the variety of things he's done wrong, refused to do, along with his enablers.etc etc!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
