Tuberville trounced Sessions despite not taking any policy stances or having absolutely anything of substance to pass along to voters. That makes it more likely Trump loses this fall. Follow me here.
The incumbent Democrat, Doug Jones has been evaluated as one of the most bipartisan Senators in the body. He is capable and adept. It's doubtful he will win re-election in ruby-red and highly polarized Alabama solely because he's a Democrat.
Sessions was a longtime Senate veteran, where he went after working as a federal prosecutor. Regardless of which way the presidential election went, he had the connections and experience to at least get decent committee assignments.
Tuberville is a lying, lazy, grifting ex-coach whose only stated bona fide for the seat was that he loves Trump. If he's elected, he will be holding a seat and looking to do nothing more than stuff his pockets while there. Odds are good that he's arrested for illegalities at some point.
Of the three, Tuberville was the worst choice from numerous angles. The folly of that choice would be accentuated most by having his sole claim to the position -- his devotion to Trump -- be negated by Trump's defeat in November. Then Tuberville has nothing to offer. Less than nothing.
And, let me tell you, little could be more fitting with Alabama's track record and history than that scenario. It would be so totally "Alabama."
For decades, I've heard those around me complain about the unflattering stereotypes Alabamians suffer. My response?
"Do you ever open your eyes and look objectively at what goes around you? Those stereotypes are built through the behavior of Alabamians."

He won't have an education or a career in law to rely on in navigating the Senate. He's an empty suit. Worse than that even, because he's greedy and dumb.

If those two things do not happen, Senator Doug will be history.

I would have been gone well over a decade ago had not health complications prevented it.

(2,037 posts)The November Alabama Senate race is a political Iron Bowl between an incumbent who is an Alabama graduate and a former Auburn coach. I keep hoping Crimson Tide fans will turn out in droves to vote for Jones because his opponent is Auburn. That election will be, I think, about three weeks before the gridiron Iron Bowl that probably won't be played this year, so voting against Auburn (Tuberville) will perhaps sublimate Crimson Tide fans' yearnings.

(7,436 posts)I don't think that's much of a factor. Alabamians can't be depended on not to harm themselves.
And I'll be surprised if there's a college football season this year.
