On Friday afternoon, both Biden and Warren confirmed her involvement. Biden wrote a letter to the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a PAC close to Warren, crediting her role. And then Warren, in a CNN interview later on Friday, complimented Biden and his economic team, and acknowledged her own involvement.
Well, well. There are lots of ways to interpret this. One is that Biden is taking full advantage of Warren to send signals to reassure the grassroots left. Another is that Warren is truly playing a major substantive role.
Either way, one must conclude that despite the drumbeat that Biden has to name a Black running mate, Warren is still very much in it. In a recent piece for Slate, Julia Craven, who is African American, wrote that Warren is the best candidate for VP to advance a racial-justice agenda. Jamelle Bouie has made similar arguments in the Times.

(8,064 posts)Warren won over Harris, Rice, Abrams, and all the other potential candidates. I like Rice second best, but Warren is far and away my choice for who can help Biden get this mess turned around in real time.

(15,325 posts)The America Biden seeks to secure will be a launch pad for future generations.
He then passes that trusted torch to his choice for President in 2024 or 2028, the VP who has worked closely by his side, who represents all that was made new & solid for America under his careful watch.
This is why Sen Warren will play an important role along with many other wise contributors in shaping America's new future, but she can not be his VP, his choice to lead beyond his tenure.
He will not choose Warren as VP.

(5,326 posts)but it's time we passed the torch to the next generation. There's a whole new batch of well qualified leaders waiting in the wings to shape THEIR own future. We've had our time, now let's let them have theirs.
Both Biden and Trump are already pushing the age envelop. Biden will be 78 when he takes office in January. He will be 82 in 2024 and if he was elected again hed be 86 when he leaves office after a second term.
The fact that there are physical and cognitive declines that come with age is just that - a fact. It is not derogatory or ageist or anything else.
Biden needs to set his Presidency up as a springboard for the next generation of Democratic politicians.

(8,064 posts)And I've known many of them. There are some people who are old at 50. There are others who are young at 90. It all depends on the person. Biden may be old by the time he gets in office. Warren is not even starting to get old.
YOU CANNOT GENERALIZE ABOUT PEOPLE based on color, sex, age, religion, level of education attained, or even physical prowess. There is a HUGE difference in people based on all of those criteria, or most any other criteria you can come up with.

(15,325 posts)It's not about age. It's more about who carries his legacy of rebuilding a more solid future.
Its not Warren.
Nor is it who I prefer but I get where Biden is going with his VP selection.
That person has to represent where his 4 or 8 year term leaves off. His legacy will be the foundation he rebuilds America upon.
He will choose someone who offers a solid trust that his legacy will be forever honored. Righting historic wrongs of the US's past & laying a new floor to build from.
I think Mayor Buttigieg would have made an excellent VP. A person Biden could have mentored into the position of Leader of the Free World one day.
And yes, there are a few who also fit that role so well.

(15,325 posts)She & many others have a role in creating it. But to step in where Biden leaves off is not one designed for Warren..
Please.
He may as well choose Hillary Clinton. She comes with more creds on her resume than Warren afterall.
Its not going to be either of them btw
Why ever would he?

1. I just dont think shes that big of draw. She did not preform well in the primary, did not even carry her home state
2. looking to 2024 (if Biden does not run) and beyond, she will be Bidens age in 4 yrs
3. A POC would lock in that voting block...having said that I include Sen Tammy
Duckworth.

That future torch will never be hers. But yes, she will have a hand in it's design
Face it.
It belongs to the future seers, the one Biden will mentor until he's confident.

(25,895 posts)If it's okay for 77 year old Biden to be running this year, it should be just fine for a 75 year old Elizabeth Warren to be running in 2024.
My fear is that Biden will bow to those who are insisting on a woman of color for VP. Then we'll really see how deep and wide racism is in this country.
