This is the 6th or 7th call that's come in, all from the same area code (202) but different phone numbers, which is why my call blocking service can only intercept.
I sense the stench of desperation coming from the GOP.

(26,427 posts)When a potentially hinky call comes in the phone rings just once and a message gives the caller a 4 digit code to enter. If it's a legitimate human, and they enter the code, my caller ID shows that same number ringing in, again. If it's a computerized call, it drops. If the number shows up on their reported list, it then is blocked.
This is the first election year I've ever gotten calls from them. This phone number has, for decades, belonged to a solidly Democratic voting household and demographically is in an area with 100% Democratic representation.

(116,431 posts)There's no reason the GOP should have my phone number in their database, so I'm assuming they're just robotically calling everybody. Caller ID on my TV identified it as NRCC.

(26,427 posts)It's been the same phone number for decades, and there's never been a GOP voter living in this house.

I also had one from the NRCC that my membership was in danger... Awwww! I've never belonged to the NRCC or any other Repuke group in my life.
Out of curiosity, I checked my missed calls and, voila, there were the calls from Congress... Darn, I missed them, for sure.

It was creepy because they always had a loud echo and he was yelling.

(37,387 posts)I have Straghttalk from Walmart. They block known spam calls.
I don't know what service they use to do it but it works most of the time.

(26,427 posts)I have Consumer Cellular. Occasionally I would get a call from an inmate in some prison in California - really - but I blocked the number.
I still have a landline, via Xfinity, because if I cancel it, my rates will go up. Which I find to be extremely weird. But, although some calls, like these, do get through, the Nomorobo service has definitely made a dent in the nuisance calls. I haven't had a call from 'Windows Tech Support' for ages.

(10,885 posts)from the RNCC on my landline for months now. Thus far, they haven't called my cell, but that's just a matter of time probably.
My callblocker works well, but RNCC uses multiple numbers to get around it. One of these days, when I'm in a particularly bad mood, I'm going to answer one of these calls and let loose. They won't be happy.
