Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI would like to nominate Arizona
as the current No. 1 in the most inept response to the Trump Virus. I know there are more states that can make that claim. I think AZ doesn't get the disfavor it deserves because, let's face it, the media doesn't want to come here when the temperature is 115 degrees. So here are my reasons why AZ is the true virus apocalypse.
1. People have to wait in the cars for hour upon hour in 100 degree plus temperatures, if they can find one.
2. PPE is now in short supply again.
3. AZ hospitals are now surging because room is running out. Welcome to the hallway closet.
4. AZ is the only state currently that is on the brink of implementing "Standards of Care" criteria for patient. Death Panels.
5. AZ closed too late and opened too early.
6. Despite all these disasters Chump came here and had a no mask rally with 3000 crazies.
7. There is no state wide mandatory mask rule.
8. The NY Times recently said that AZ is the worst place in the world for COVID based on a number of criteria.
9. On Thursday the Bozo Governor had a press conference where his response to the rampaging virus in AZ was to limit restaurant's inside dining to less than 50% capacity. Wow.
I know there are other States that can also claim the No. 1 spot, but I humbly submit AZ is the top state to currently avoid.

(16,616 posts)the night before. People are waiting 8 - 12 hours and then being turned away!
It's forecast to be 117 degrees in Phoenix over the weekend into early next week.
It's a catastrophe.

Aps/srp stays on top of things, they work 24/7. The transformer that serviced my house went out a couple years ago during the summer, the crew came out and replaced the entire pole and transformer, in the middle of the night.

(16,616 posts)If you're determined and lucky enough to get tested, you sometimes have to wait as long as TWO WEEKS for your results.
I live here, so I'm allowed to beat up on Arizona.

You're right about it being dry. If we had this heat plus the humidity of the south east it would be a lot worse.

Mask usage is getting better, about 60%.

That is bs they make you wait.

(11,078 posts)Floridians, particularly in the most-affected counties, seem blissfully unconcerned about COVID-19. Their God-given right to congregate, have fun and spread the virus is the only thing that matters.
Florida would give AZ a run for No. 1. It's probably a photo finish. At at the graveyard.

(22,506 posts)MAGA granddaughter. I am so upset about this and my husband feels powerless to sTop her. Luckily her other daughter who hates mf45 as much as we do is gong along to make sure masks are being worn around her another.
My mother is a liberal and also hates mf45 btw but I think she is tired of being stuck at home. I get it but Im scared where shes going the red ignorant part of Arizona that people attack those wearing masks.
Nevilledog
(52,691 posts)Haven't heard anything about confrontations over masks, but I rarely go anywhere. It is a very red county, but seeing an uptick in mask usage.

(22,506 posts)I saw a video of a MF45 supporter attacking a mask wearer and they said it was Prescott. Thank you for telling me,though youre seeing a increasing mask usage.
Sadly my sister in law and niece think corona virus is a Democratic hoax To make MF45 lose. I hope my mother in law wears her mask driving up there In the car for Sun City west. I have an older sister who had a heart bypass recently and I took her out yesterday and wore my mask when I was driving in the car with her to protect her.

(22,506 posts)My mother in law called today and said she was not going to Prescott. The daughter who is a mf45 supporter cancelled the trip because two of her co workers at the car dealership she works at died of COVID 19 on Thursday. One was a salesman she didnt know who was a white male 48 years and the other was a parts person another white make 61 years old that she knew. Out of caution my sister in law cancelled the trip. She is quarantining herself for the weekend and not seeing her Mother nor kids and grandchildren. My mother in law didnt know if they are closing the business down because of the outbreak.
I am so relieved!

(52,691 posts)Still disgusted that it took people dying to make the daughter wise up.
I hope you and yours stay healthy!

(25,816 posts)The county sheriff says it would be to hard to enforce.
On June 7th Cochise County had 141 cases.
It is 940 today, less than 5 weeks later a 666% increase (yikes).
I stay home, keep the cooler on 24/7 and stay, um, hydrated.
Thank goodness I live in the boonies away for the citidiots and covididiots.

(26,132 posts)the state that keeps Arizona and Texas from crashing into each other, the one that a lot of people think isn't part of the U.S. at all, New Mexico, is closing indoor dining back down effective Monday. Looks like fall sports in k-12 schools is also not going to happen. And even if the schools will open.
While our numbers have been rising, they are not out of control. Most people are good about wearing masks, as the governor has ordered. Unfortunately, too many stores don't enforce the mask rule on everyone. They need to start that, and stop being concerned about "offending" patrons. The local library is open for curbside delivery only. I feel as safe here as I possibly can.
I could also add we have a Democratic Governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham.

(36,905 posts)Only voted for 2 men, all the rest women. One of the men was for district judge and was endorsed by my former state representative I campaigned for a ways back, who also just happens to be a woman. She was an amazing legislator.
I want a LOT more women in office. Our governor, Gretchen Whitmer, has handled this pandemic extremely well. Most are happy with her here in MI.

Ought to be interesting by this time next week. With our failed opening of Bars and Cafe's as well as the Casino's,that incubation period clock start ticking tomorrow.
Even with all Bars being locked down at Midnight tonight, the horse has long left the Barns.

(36,905 posts)1. It can spread the virus and drains resources needed by the actual residents of the recipient states.
2. Why should other states have to deal with the ineptitude of other ones?
Conversely, I understand the compassion side of the argument.
This is why we need to use military bases and set up field hospitals, like 1918-1920. Whos stopping this plan?

(10,696 posts)We opened our tattoo parlors and hair salons in April. People are packing into church services. Movie theaters and indoor dining are not being seriously restricted.
And we are seeing the results in our infection rate.
But (so far) not nearly as bad as Arizona, at least on a per capita basis.
I'm curious as to why that might be. But it certainly isn't because we have made better policy choices, because we surely have not.
ThoughtCriminal
(14,203 posts)We have a lot of adults who want to prove their loyalty to Trump by being as personally irresponsible as he is.
We may not have as many per acre, but more than enough per-capita to keep this epidemic going indefinitely.

(10,696 posts)We deserve to be doing at least as poorly.
I wonder if the high relative humidity might be slowing the spread somewhat?
Also, it is possible that our business-class folks might be taking the virus more seriously than their counterparts in Arizona. I can't speak for AZ, but I do know that lots of office workers in Atlanta are still working from home whenever possible.

(10,438 posts)Ducey opened things up right before tRump arrived. It was way too soon and too fast. I've heard people speculate that he's carrying tRump's water in order to secure a cabinet appointment. The numbers will probably start reflecting tRump's COVID church rally. And Ducey won't even talk to the mayors of the biggest AZ cities or Senato Sinema.
