If I, as a white woman, use the term n****r to put someone down, even if I don't intend to offend Blacks on the forum, it's OK? That is the exact same reasoning.

Why do you accept education as to "Oriental," but not as to the term "bitch"? Both are offensive terms that rely on ignorance/stereotypes/negative feelings about the group of people referred to by the term.

Sorry, but you can put a little effort into at least being educated by the people impacted by the misogyistic term you want to use. Just let go of it, apologize, and find a colorful term that does not rely on class-based stereotypes for its sting.

I spend less and less time here. Things have changed greatly.

Sometimes I think this current administration gave fuel not only to the RW, but to those here who delighted in the sudden freedom to say "p---y." And suddenly had the freedom (apparently) to use gay slurs as long as they were directed at republicans, to call women b-----s if they are on the other side, and so on.

In the last few days, I've also noticed the word "trash" used several times in reference to women. I don't care who these women are or whom they date, I find that offensive as hell.

which insists that ANY use of the term "bitch" for any purpose and in any context is a vile sexist affront.

There are several posts on the appropriate use of the term... when talking about a female dog. You are right I could have said

it doesn't matter what usage you are using it for except for a female dog... But not one of the times I have seen this word used in the past several days, it was not used discussing dogs. You know that.

It doesn't matter what you believe, it is a sexist slur used to demean and berate women, to put them in their place as nothing but whiny female dog that needs to shut up.

23. You should always think of an insult in the terms of the operative comparison.
Tue Jul 7, 2020, 08:17 PM
Jul 2020

The operative comparison is how the term is being used to insult.

If I tell my son or daughter, "Oh my god, you throw like a girl" My implication is that girls do not throw well, that they are inferior. I am insulting my son/daughter by comparing them with a girl.

A Bitch is a female dog. Not just a dog, but a female one. Why not say, "You are whining like a dog" or "Punk as dog". No, the operative insult is still in the dog being a "female"

When you call someone a "son of a bitch" you are insulting their MOTHER in order to insult them, and you are doing so by implying that their mother is a female dog.

My response regarding this term is, "Surely you can find a better way to use your time in finding non-sexist insults".

You have to realize people are meaner online and I'm sometimes probably meaner than I ordinarily would be when making a post. Studies show this.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/03/health/good-people-bad-online-partner/index.html

People responding to hundreds of millions of people online tend to dehumanize others. They remember that someone is female/male or follows some candidate or is of some race, but they frequently don't pay attention to differentiate actions of one member of that group versus another. So rather than consider how frequently an individual of some group acts, they think of how frequently the group acts as a whole. If they interact with many more members of one group than another, that perception of the group is magnified by the number of members they see.

race or ethnicity is now considered racist. I just learned Oriental was bad never knew that, thought it was another name for Asian people. We used to say "colored people" now that is unacceptable but apparently "People of Color" is acceptable. I hear that used all the time on TV. Take Kelly Anne Conway the "B" word seems like a pretty good description of that one women. Back in my dad's generation there was a derogatory name for every ethnic group that they even used themselves. Sometimes I don't know what the proper word is to use without being called racist. My dad could have played Archie Bunker without acting and he voted Democrat.
