Shocking video shows the moment a man was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in the Bronx Sunday - while he was holding hands and crossing the street with his pigtailed little daughter.
Anthony Robinson, 28, had traveled from Brooklyn with his 7-year-old daughter Khloe to spend the holiday weekend in the Bronx, where Khloes mom lives and shares custody of the little girl with Robinson.
The unsuspecting pair was holding hands and strolling along E. 170th St. shortly before 6 p.m. when a dark sedan rolled up slowly, and a passenger leaned out and started shooting as the dad and daughter crossed Sheridan Ave. in Mount Eden.
Video shows Robinson, shot in the chest, falling to the ground, as little Khloe lets go of her daddys hand and dashes down the street to safety.
Cops said the gunman in the car squeezed off four shots. Miraculously, none of them hit the little girl, or anyone else.
The bloodshed was part of a holiday weekend of violence more typically associated with the crack epidemic years of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
On Sunday alone, 48 people were shot, nine fatally, in 30 different incidents around the city.

(51,308 posts)Horrible shooting in my hometown not too long ago during a protest.
No one is cooperating with the police. I saw one interview with a woman (African-American) who's lived in the area for years, and she said she's looking to move out because of how the community has become.

(852 posts)The killing of over two dozen elementary school kids in Newtown and 150 people at a concert in Vegas didn't change anything as the GOP and Republicans blocked gun control.
Also, George Floyd was murdered by an on-duty cop paid by the government so theres obviously a difference and Im surprised you cant see it.
Yet more evidence America is a failed nation thanks to the GOP and the blocking of gun control and real police reform.
The world looks on in pity.

(51,308 posts)That at least three children were killed?
That the article pointed out that the shootings are getting worse and worse? More frequent and completely uncaring as to any collateral damage?
But your insinuation is noted.

(1,656 posts)when it becomes apparent that there is a a chronic problem with unequal application of force against minorities and when it is clear far too few police are receiving consequences for their lawless behavior, there will be protests.
if there are shooting spiking in some cities relative to some recent years, then this is an issue which has a seemingly straightforward solution--community engagement efforts to get witnesses to step forward, arrests and prosecution of those criminals. end of story. but if we accept the legal premise and biological that we are all created equal, then we must look at the deeper root cause for these shootings--1) way too many guns flowing freely in our country. its been proven over and over again scientifically. 2)structural disadvantages among a persecuted, often hopeless African American population. work on fixes for those things AND hold lawless police officers accountable for their crimes while rewarding and reinforcing exemplary police.

And figure out why the people want to kill other people so readily.

Ideally, officers would never take anyones life in the course of their duties. But given the number of arrests they make each year (around 10 million) and the number of deadly-weapons attacks on officers (an average of 27 per day in just two-thirds of the nations police departments, according to a 2014 analysis), it is not clear that these 1,000 civilian shooting deaths suggest that law enforcement is out of control.

(4,149 posts)Based on the description of what happened anyway. Hopefully the police are able to track down the bastard who did this.
