WHO: We're not seeing a second wave. Coronavirus is spiking because lockdown rules are easing

As states continue to reopen businesses and many Americans attempt to resume some sense of normalcy — going to the beach or, in some cases, back to work — they're also seeing spikes in coronavirus cases.

At least 21 states have witnessed an increase in new infections, with at least nine states reporting hospitalization rates go up last week.

Countries like China have also experienced surges in coronavirus cases in some cities after opening tourist attractions, restaurants, and other businesses.

But calling instances like these a "second wave" isn't quite accurate, Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization's Health Emergencies Programme, said during a media briefing June 13.

"First and foremost, most of the world right now is still very much in the the first wave of this pandemic," he said.

Much of the prevention has been by avoiding obvious exposure, like touching one's face. George II Jun 2020 #5

in doing that I also avoided coming down with influenza.
The crowded cruise ending in March did not infect me.
The weekly shopping at grocery stores did not infect me.
Visiting hospital every 3 weeks for my wife's cancer treatments did not infect either one of us.
Going to post office, bank, eye doctor, hearing doctor did not infect me.
Filling gas in our 2 cars did not infect me.
Picking up food from restaurants did not infect me.

Conclusion: It has to be very easy to avoid covid-19 infection.
All I am doing is avoid touching face with unwashed hands.

I just burned 80 candles. This virus is shed by infected people, mostly where they have touched or sat on.
You touch the same spot, the virus gets on your hands.
But skin on palms and fingers is too tough for virus to get inside body.
When you touch your eyes, nose or mouth, then virus gets in easily.

Yes, virus can be in air from sneezing and coughing.
But probability of someone doing that near you is much smaller than
you touching a thousand places touched by infected people.
This virus can stay alive on surfaces for as long as 2 days.

I post on some bipartisan boards, and people were constantly pointing out how these states that were opening weren't seeing spikes, when I said "just wait, they will" I was attacked. Why were we even debating that fact? There is no argument over social distancing, the science is clear that it saves lives, so what did Conservatives think was going to happen with social distancing going away in many places? Did they think hundreds of years of science was just going to go poof? It's like they were making abet that the sun wouldn't come up in the East tomorrow and then when it did they ignore it and move onto the next science denying tripe.

Know this though, if Trump would have been adamant about people wearing masks and social distancing, the US would have almost a totally open economy right now and deaths might have been 75% less than they are. That one person telling his followers to wear masks could have saved tens of thousands of lives.
