Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHow is Eric Cantor polling these days? (VA-7)
Obama is up by 7 (8?) points in VA -- is this having any pull down-ballot for Wayne Powell?
This is one of two races I'll be watching closely from CA on election day. The other being the Massachusetts Senate race.
Thanks in advance,
LTH

(135,335 posts)You can see what I'm occupied with these days!

(20,329 posts)But something like 43% in the district thought Cantor should be replaced (vs 41% who thought not). And his approval rating was in the 30s.
So who knows. Hopefully someone can find a more recent poll.

(96,882 posts)"Re-elect/replace" polling is nothing like "would you vote for Powell or Cantor", and I haven't heard anything about public or internal polling with specific choices for this race.
NYC Liberal
(20,329 posts)That's the closest thing I could find to a poll there.

(135,335 posts)Also, I've learned from someone working in Powell's campaign: "polling tells us that moderate republicans are open to a candidate like Wayne. And our interactions with those people proves the polling to be accurate.
If Cantor didn't think he had to defend himself he would never have agreed to debate Wayne. Because he hasn't had a debate in 10 years (since the first election) this is not a skill he has been honing. There will be no softball followups from Wayne."
Here's a DU thread today:

edit: On July 31, Mudcat Saunders, working for Powell, said, here at DU: The internals show that the 7th District doesn't think Cantor is too pretty...approval rating 37%, re-elect 41%, replace 43%, but the district is +12 Rs.

(22,271 posts)I'm actually interested in recent polling numbers if you know if any. I did a Google search but couldn't come up with anything.
I read both of your links and his negatives are obviously affecting his numbers -- pretty dramatically, in fact -- but I'm just wondering by how much. Do you know if the Powell campaign has done any internal polling in which they're willing to share the numbers? I'm SURE Cantore's has and the fact that they're not letting loose any of those numbers tells me something.

(22,271 posts)for that to happen but who knows? Stranger things have happened. A couple weeks ago I had given up on the Senate and now all of a sudden Warren is up by 2 percentage points so you just never know.

They're running ads locally, I hear. Haven't seen them.
THANKS!

(2 posts)Saw Wayne Tuesday night in LA; he hinted that numbers had flattened out in recent weeks after the bump from his GOP Convention run ads. He didn't indicate what his polling source was; but might have said something about campaign internal pollings that I missed. If the debate between Powell and Cantor is televised October 1st, something we're hoping Warren Buffet will insist upon as a new stakeholder in Media General, we could see a defining trend. I would agree; Cantor's self-imposed low visibility and knee-jerk defenses would seem to indicate his own polls must be showing him in some danger.

This is a special link we had setup just for DU. It goes directly to his campaign site, but has a tracker so any contributions that go to it are contributed to DU! 100% of the donations go to the campaign. No third party interference.
