The move follows the ViacomCBS cable network's decision to pull episodes of the show in the wake of protests against police brutality.
Paramount Network has pulled the plug on Cops for good.
The ViacomCBS-owned cabler had removed the long-running show from its schedule in the wake of nationwide protests following the police-involved death of George Floyd on May 25. Now, the network says it's dropping the show altogether.
"Cops is not on the Paramount Network and we dont have any current or future plans for it to return," a network spokesperson said.
Paramount Network's forerunner, Spike TV, picked up Cops in 2013 after it ended a 25-season run on Fox. The series continued following the 2018 rebranding of the channel as Paramount Network, which also had syndication rights to many past seasons.

(38,958 posts)I suspect that we will see a diminished presence of the scripted TV Police dramas next fall as well. Some might go into hiatus while others will likely be cancelled. A few might be able to thread the needle in the writer's room but I don't see as many on the small screen as we have now.

(32,626 posts)that was of another "I can't breathe" case that left another black man dead in the street. He was chased by the police because he failed to dim his headlights. When he had finally stopped, he got out of the car, hands in the air, and that was it. He was repeatedly tased, told the cops he had a heart condition, repeatedly said " I can't breathe", and died. "Live PD" was riding with the cop.

People always say..."why didn't he stop"?

(7,423 posts)There's an interesting bit about Cops. You hear people being arrested on the show (white or black) saying they "can't breathe" all the time. The response is always the same from the cops: "If you can talk, you can breathe". Always the same, again and again. I haven't seen this mentioned in the media in relation to current events. Clearly it's some kind of training issue which apparently is wrong and dangerous.
