NYPD "Show me your papers"

In anticipation of September 17th Occupy protests, the NYPD is setting up check points in lower Manhattan. Citizens in this supposed free society, no matter what their business, would refuse.

Dear Pace Students, Faculty, and Staff,



Monday, September 17 is the first anniversary of Occupy Wall Street. As a precautionary measure, NYPD will establish check points throughout Lower Manhattan. It is important that employees and students carry Pace ID cards in order to gain access through these checkpoints. Locations of the checkpoints are still to be determined.

drug crimes (without a trial or conviction), eminent domain actions for private enterprise, no front yard gardens or back yard clotheslines from neighborhood associations, work place drug testing, arresting 6 year olds in schools (hell massive police presence in "urban" schools), "free speech zones", massive surveillance in collusion with the government from private enterprise, etc., etc., etc.

19. The only stories I find readily by search are: (1) checkpoints associated with 9/11 anniversary

and (2) checkpoints associated with the clearing of Zuccotti Park in mid-November of last year

If NYPD plan a massive system of checkpoints in Manhattan Monday because they worried about an OWS anniversary, they're certainly keeping it a careful secret, because this alleged email is the only "evidence" available for that, appearing now on several websites

None seem particularly reliable as sources -- and since I've never heard of campaign.r20 before, I don't have much faith in them

I suppose the NYPD might plan to limit access near NYSE, since OWS has announced a 17 September anniversary action there

But then the story is still strange -- why would NYPD only tell Pace about it?

My best guess would that the email is a fake -- perhaps originally an email regarding 9/11 anniversary checkpoints, modified to reference OWS on 17 September instead of the 9/11 attacks
