I just learned that Harris M. Kaplansky (MadAsHellNewYorker) died in Colorado at the end of March. I dont believe he was on here much, if at all, in recent years, but longtime members will remember him as a sweet, fun, witty and engaging guy. I have no details about his death. There is an In Memoriam Facebook page and his obituary is online. Condolences to his family and many friends. ❤️

(234,526 posts)It doesn't appear that he posted on DU.3 so he hadn't been here for awhile though he has a lot of posts. His name belongs on the DU Memorial Page.

(34,655 posts)I do remember him but he has been gone a long while. From reading the memorials on his FB page it sounds like he did not let a moment of his life go by without being fully involved.
So sorry to hear this sad news.
I remember him. He and I didn't interact much, but he was a bright presence here on DU...

by
John Donne
No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
This poem is in the public domain.
Rest in peace, our Democratic Underground friend.

(10,572 posts)I appreciate much of their work, although they have since closed. They treated birth parents with respect and sought to educate the public about the pain that first parents often endured. They didn't try to paint adoption as a panacea for everyone. They provided honest dialogue and information about all facets to adoption.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
