1. Iceland's economy relies very heavily on tourism.

They really need to get the tourists back but without more covid cases. It's always been an expensive place to visit - costs are high because they have to import a lot of things (and they have high taxes like the rest of Scandinavia because they actually believe in looking after their citizens).

2. $631 from JFK to Reykjavik and $100/night hotel in mid-June

Sounds like a good way to use the stimulus check.

3. I can state, from personal experience, Iceland is spectacular

But as much as I'd LOVE to go back, I wouldn't want to risk the risk of getting contaminated on the flight, right now.

Icelandic Air is very cramped, very full flights. The country is spectacular.
