Rahm Emanuel's board can afford what and who it wants to afford. Other unions are next. Look out, police, firemen and librarians.
1. Today, Rahm and the board are funding a multi-million dollar robocall campaign that pits the public against teachers by pushing a button.
2. Rahm has given Penny Pritzker $5.2 million of TIF (tax slush fund for developing poor neighborhoods) for her Hyatt.
3. Here are two examples of money that the Board gives the people farthest away from children. You'll find more online if you look. These millionaires' abridged WTF budget shows that Rahm and his Board cronies are increasing both money and staff in some of the offices they INVENTED last year:
Page 65. Office of Communications (Becky Carroll, $165,000) -- WTF?
Total cost for FY 2012 was $1,619,945
Budgeted for FY 2013: $2,361,322 Total (budgeted) staff for FY 2012 was: 9
Total budgeted staff for FY 2013 to be: 20
Page 93. Portfolio Office -- WTF?
Total cost for FY 2012 was $23,192,864
Budgeted for FY 2013: $104,100,710 Total (budgeted) staff for FY 2012 was: 43.5
Total budgeted staff for FY 2013 to be: 68.2$165,
4. From Ben Joravsky's "While You Were Distracted by NATO" in The Chicago Reader:
"... In his office, Emanuel employs 86, up from the 81 Mayor Daley had on the payroll. Emanuel's also paying his mayoral office employees more than Daley didan average of $88,000, up from $85,000.
Meanwhile, the number of police officers on the payroll is down to 10,600 from 11,200. The fire department's down to 5,000 from 5,100. The library's down to 850 from 1,070. And as the mayor continues to cut the things you need, there's more tax dollars to waste on the things he wants..."
There's money all over Chicago. It's just being kept from "other people's children.
I highly recommend this local paper on the teachers' perspective for all things Chicago Public Schools. It's the only balanced look you'll find for the Rahm media and budget machine.

Makes me think that the "weakness" President Obama seemed to be paralyzed with in his first two years when Rahm was his Chief of Staff had everything to do with the lackluster policies that the president seemed to favor. Since Rahm left to Chicago, I've noticed a drastic change in President Obama's more feisty disposition that's winning him a LOT of friends on both sides of the political spectrum.
