on the Smothers Brothers Show. He was going to sing "The Big Muddy" - a war protest song. With the Vietnam War raging and protests growing, President Johnson contacted his friends at CBS and asked them to not allow Pete to sing.
CBS agreed, but with pressure from the Smothers Brothers they finally did allow him to sing the song on their show.
CBS later fired the Smothers Brothers anyhow!
