I was all set to search and see if the testing had drastically increased or if there were outbreaks in assisted living facilities or prisons. You saved me the trouble.

(53,410 posts)The surge is more pronounced and obvious in prisons, nursing homes and places where a lot of people are packed together like the meat processing companies, but in these places theyre counting is accurate, whereas in the larger groups who dont have the same conditions the counting is actually inaccurate. The way it looks its possible than in the population its impossible to count how many people have it because there is virtually no testing.
All we are seeing is the tip of the iceberg until everyone can be tested. Any counts until then are completely flawed.
It makes sense that if theres a surge in prisons and nursing homes theres an equal surge in the entire community. Prisoners and the elderly in nursing homes are infected by outside sources, or by people who go outside who guard or take care of them or visit them.

(53,410 posts)I really wanted to see the results of opening up too soon. I think we can assume that the majority of those infected now have infected every person theyve come in contact with who are now infecting their share. Those red states are going to end up broken beyond repair.

(7,447 posts)for any increases attributable to opening up to show up in the actual numbers.
Testing doesn't happen that fast. Heck symptoms sometimes don't happen that fast.

(372 posts)I have been tracking TN vs. KY because the governor in Kentucky reacted much sooner.
The deaths per 1m in Tennessee is 31 and in Kentucky it is 56.
The cases per 1m are 1904 TN and 1099 KY.
Makes no sense.
