https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/29/health/rare-inflammatory-syndrome-us-covid-19/index.htmlNational Health Service England sent an alert to doctors and on Sunday the Paediatric Intensive Care Society tweeted it out to members. It warned about a small increase in cases of critically ill children with "common overlapping features of toxic shock syndrome and atypical Kawasaki disease with blood parameters" with some children testing positive for Covid-19.
There have also been some reports in Italy and Spain, doctors said.
team at Stanford Children's Hospital said they had also seen a case. They described the case of a 6-month-old girl admitted to the hospital with Kawasaki disease and later also diagnosed with coronavirus.
Kawasaki disease causes inflammation in the walls of the arteries and can limit blood flow to the heart. It is usually treatable and most children recover without serious problems, but it can be deadly. No one knows what causes Kawasaki disease, but some studies have pointed to a link between viruses or a bacterial infection.
Wonder if this news is what prompted shitstain to insist schools open?!?
Info regarding Kawasaki Disease can be found here, including symptoms. Yhos site states that treatment in the first 10 days is essential to precent possibility of permanent heart damage!

(57,073 posts)I am very worried about schools reopening in the fall & this complicates this issue, IMO.
NBC 4 NY is also reporting on this issue.
IMO, not enough is known about the long-term health effects of this horrid disease to even consider opening schools at this point! 😰
Here is a link to NBC 4's coverage:

Infectious disease doctors say it is not uncommon for Kawasaki disease to be triggered by a viral infection.
Symptoms can include prolonged fever, red eyes, gastrointestinal distress, swollen hands or feed, and if untreated Kawasaki can cause fatal heart damage.
And he wants schools opened? 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

(118,696 posts)idea of what Covid is and maybe, if we are lucky, there will be theraputics to treat it. Even if school is closed in the fall that is okay. Many a genius spent a year out of school and sick in bed in their childhoods. Getting taught by laptop and having more family time isn't going to hurt kids. I hope schools can open in the fall. But i hope not now.
