and one that will harm the GOP for long time to come.
I have friends and family in all those states.
I hope they survive.

(26,047 posts)Fourteen days is the near-universal upper limit of the time between infection and symptoms, but they can occur within a few days. My guess is that we'll see a climb in these states a week from Friday.
itll be another week to 10 days after that when we see the spike in deaths too.

(57,073 posts)When is SC opening up? I seriously did not know they had a stay home order.
Seems GA & TN racing to see who can kill the most people the quickest. 🤬🤬🤬

(57,073 posts)Almost as if virus were targeting something. Genetic factors, perhaps, when in crowds.
I'm sure researchers are trying desperately to solve this seeming mystery, despite the resident of our WH. 🤬

(10,626 posts)We will continue to social distance, but, thanks to my doofus governor, Brian Kemp, every interaction I am forced to have will be that much more dangerous.
The odds of me or one of my family members being infected just went way up, even though we will continue observing all the same precautions we have been until this is all over with.
The stupidity of these people boggles the mind.

I recall Kemp's startling admission of ignorance. How could any literate person legitimately not know that? Trying to take out Stacey Abrams base, I think. 🤬

(57,073 posts)I dread them opening schools in the fall & you know they will. Without contaonment or a vaccine. I think that's when it is really going to take off everywhere like it did in NY.
In the grand scheme of a child's life, a year of online homeschooling vs possible kidney dialysis heart, lung, or liver problems is a winner, imo.

(26,047 posts)I had been saying for a long time that, if self-isolation policies succeeded beyond our wildest hopes, the takeaway for far too many people wouldn't be "Wow, stay-at-home policies worked wonders!" but, rather "See? It was never that big a deal in the first place. All that inconvenience (forced on us by liberal big government) for nothing!"
Sadly, the only way it seems that some people will learn is if we get a massive reopening followed by an equally-massive second wave of COVID-19. Hopefully, it can become evident in these FREEEEEEEEDUMB!!!-loving states in time for everyone else to learn from them and keep it from going nationwide. Still, I weep for people in those states, particularly those who don't share the "re-open now" sentiment but are going to be forced to participate in it ("Now that the governor has said it's O.K., come back to work or get fired." ) who are going to become needless victims.

(38,187 posts)And the virus only JUST hit my county in NC. I'm down on food because of a power outage. I'm out of essentials. I'm running low on some things I just personally need. If I can fucking stay home anyhow, so can all these assholes who think they are too good for a little sacrifice TEMPORARILY.
I despise the fucking south. I can say it openly, because I live here. I still despise it, well, the people. The south itself is nice. It's the damn morons who run the place that make it miserable. The stupid will always be in charge here because the stupid is the majority. I wish this thing would equalize the south and make it at least vote better in the future. I'm staying the fuck home as long as I can. Fuck these stupid assholes. I wish they would off each other so the votes come through blue as fuck from here on out, forever.

Our current Governor has expressed his concern for personal freedom over health.
So . . . once there is a clear path (meaning I feel comfortable with strangers walking through my home), we will put the house up for sale and head back to a region that puts science and critical thinking over religious zealotry and cult worship.
Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
