GENEVA The head of the World Health Organization has warned that the worst is yet ahead of us in the coronavirus outbreak, raising new alarm bells about the pandemic just as many countries are beginning to ease restrictive measures.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus didnt specify exactly why he believes that the outbreak that has infected nearly 2.5 million people and killed over 166,000, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University, could get worse. Some people, though, have pointed to the likely future spread of the illness through Africa, where health systems are far less developed.
Tedros alluded to the so-called Spanish flu in 1918 as a reference for the coronavirus outbreak.
It has a very dangerous combination and this is happening ... like the 1918 flu that killed up to 100 million people, he told reporters in Geneva.

(10,108 posts)about Africa where in many places they do not even have the water to wash their hands. Just think how bad it has been in the countries that are developed, with good health care and we have not yet seen the end.

(25,111 posts)at least for the USA, we should learn from history, and yet, RWers damn with history only when it suits them and even they still get it completely wrong, i.e. "stay at home equals to Jews taken to concentration camps".
In 1918 alone, approx. 200,000 Americans died just in one month (October). 1918 - 1920 approx. 675,000 died in the USA, The world 50,000, 000 - 100,000,000.
And yet, here we go again with ignorance and no caring so called "Christians".
I am tired of their fakeness.

(10,108 posts)was in a time when sophisticated medical equipment and information was not available. This virus could very well be much worse, we are just better equipped to fight it. Many other places are not. This is scary.
