(17,865 posts)You didn't really have to cancel Wimbledon....
Probably too high profile for them to do it though

(17,865 posts)I am also kind of surprised about golf also not being on. Maybe two separate holes on each green. First to get in a hole blocks that hole from the others use. Would add a bit of variation.
Only family members or live in caddies get to caddie.
The holes get sterilized after each twosome plays through.

Even if the holes somehow got infected with the virus, I now can't imagine how anyone could get it from the holes. Perhaps I'm lacking in imagination.

(34,517 posts)reason is that multiple people have to touch the ball. That would be true for Wimbledon also.

(1,294 posts)Players flying in from all over the globe and there are flight restrictions in countries all over the world and some require, if you can fly there, to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
In addition, players drip copious amounts of sweat when the are playing on to the court, plus sweaty towels all around, and both players touch the same balls.
Then there are the umpires (who also live all around the world and fly all over to tournaments, and Tournament officials.Plus, ball kids, lines people, Physical trainers - both the ones who can only treat players on court injuries and many players also travel with their own PTs. Plus medical staff (Drs) to treat an ill player on court or while at the tournament. Chefs, dining room employees and locker room employees. Also, players have coaches and hitting partners who travel with them (not to mention, Spouses, children or SO.
American football and baseball dont have players flying in from all over the world or even all over the US coming to a city to play.
And they are flying all over the globe for 11 months. There is literally no off season to speak of.
And every week there are at 4-6 tournaments being played all over the world. Players fly all over from one week to the next from Europe, to China, to US, to South American, in a million different directions. Its a flying circus 24/7.

(1,294 posts)For a very steep price one can get insurance through Lloyds that other insurance companies wouldnt touch with a ten foot poll.
