(17,025 posts)The last thing Twitler wants is for everyone to know exactly how badly he screwed up and how many people died because of that.

(349 posts)It also omits other US territories. Same with the Washington Post. I've contacted both papers several times and they're considering including Puerto Rico. Mighty big of them.
This site has more accurate and more updated confirmed case information:

(694 posts)He's showing all those liberal democrat governors, especially that woman from Michigan, who's boss. He's bitching at reporters. He's consulting with celebrities. He's calling out the 'fake news'. According to trumptards, he hasn't made a wrong decision yet.

(1,586 posts)The CDC is tracking this. I hate to see anyone suggest the hard working people at the CDC are incompetent when they are heroes.

(1,855 posts)They haven't been testing everyone.
A case in point:
My neighbor, age 70, who lives across the road was very sick last month, difficulty breathing, cough, other covid 19 symptoms. Was tested for flu, it was negative. Went to a pulmonologist who gave her breathing apparatus.
Meanwhile, her son had been sick, as were his wife and 2 kids, and she believes she caught it from him or his family. He works for VA, tested positive for covid 19. His wife and children were not tested. One of the kids had very bad symptoms, was tested for the flu, negative.
So 5 people I know probably had it but only 1 was tested and counted. They all recovered, luckily, and there are plenty of folks out there who've had it without knowing it and recovered. They aren't counted. And some who've died without being tested or counted.
And FWIW, the wife works delivering for the post office and Amazon. She was out of work 2 weeks, but was probably spreading it before she took sick time once husband was diagnosed.
Also, my friends 9 yr old son had symptoms several weeks ago, a cough and fever for several days, and he was treated at home and not tested. I suspect he had it but we won't know until they come up with a test to measure antibodies or antiproteins or whatever they have to measure to see if a person has actually had it.
The lack of adequate and prompt testing means only a portion of cases are actually reported and recorded.
And there's a lag time in reporting or consolidating data. I have looked at several sites to follow the reported numbers and agree they are not reporting them accurately or promptly. I heard about 2 deaths in my county from someone at the grocery store, but when I checked several sites it wasn't recorded. The next day the county had reported it but it took several days to see that info on other tracking sites, at which point we had even more. Same for actual cases. Don't know where many sites get their numbers or how often they update. I'm in NC and earlier today we had 900+ cases. Should hit 1000 by tomorrow but some sites will be reporting numbers from several days ago.
