I haven't heard from her since I had to set her straight on a few things, about 2 years ago. I saw her at last year's family reunion and she pretty much ignored me.
She said she's expecting a check, any day now, meaning from the government. Yea, well, OK. As tempting as it was to enlighten her, I just let that drop. She works as an Esthetician so I pretty much figure she's without an income, right now, and she doesn't need any further stress.
Regardless of some of the offensive and delusional stuff she's said to me, I hope they all remain safe and well. Her grandmother, who is my grandmother's niece, is 105 years old. I'm really not sure what degree of cousins that makes us.

(82,383 posts)is my calculation.
I've run into people who think a bill becomes law by media mention. And then right-wingers are OK with government help suddenly.
Yea, I admit I do feel bad for her. She thinks the sun rises and sets at trump*'s behest. She also lives in the Annapolis area so the cost of living must be crippling.
I had to restrict her on FB - she doesn't see anything I post, unless it's a photo linked from Instagram. I strongly suspect she's the one who filed an alert on something I had posted. Oh well. There won't be a family reunion this year, so there's that to make me smile. No more working on a viable excuse to skip out on it.

(53,410 posts)The Trump supporters are going to change as they realize this shit is real. Right now theyre clinging to the delusion. They just dont want to see the truth, so they wont.

(54,527 posts)I do have a close relative with whom I have political differences, and this particular party has never held a steady job--ever. Always whatever came along, although in good times, things DID come along. Once I was presented with a potential, if improbable, minor financial windfall. I promised all such relatives a piece of the pie if it ever came to pass, even though this particular one thought I should be taxed to the point where virtually nothing was left if it did happen.
Well, eventually, it DID happen, and I assured everyone that after the taxes were paid, I would make good on my promise. Suddenly they thought the taxes were excessive. Wasn't there any way around them? (No, I'm still a U.S. citizen, so no, there wasn't) Oh, and by the way when did they get THEIR money from me, huh? huh? did it arrive yet? They could really use it.
People's perspectives on such matters tend to bend to the situation at hand when it's THEIR situation.

(3,407 posts)Mine is a sister, loaned her the money with promise of repaying after her tax return came in. I never thought that she would repay and I imagine the fear of collecting has prevented her from calling ever again, 5 years so far, at that angle, it was money well spent for me.

(26,337 posts)She's under the delusion that he's been telling the truth about those checks are going out any minute, now.
I've learned a hard lesson about loaning money to family members.

(26,337 posts)Honestly, it took every ounce of my self restraint to just pass up on engaging her on this. Just not worth the energy.
