Too many people and too much industrialization destroying the environment?
Solution: kill millions of people and destroy the economy with a plague that a private, profit-driven healthcare system is totally unprepared to prevent or mitigate.
Oh, and it helps if your political system has accepted unfettered capitalism as the ultimate goal of society, and that system is headed by an increasingly insane and incompetent ego-maniacal buffoon.

(1,954 posts)Low key, but there are quite a few folks cheering on the virus that I've seen. From the far-right evangelicals to the far-left eco-terrorists, the virus is being hailed as a savior of humanity, and the higher the death count climbs, the happier they get. The right thinks it's a rapture, the left thinks its the planet protecting itself.
Me, I'm just glad that humanity's unified behind something for the first time in a century. Shame it takes this much death to accomplish.

(13,874 posts)I qualified what I said with the word sane.
The people you are talking about dont meet that criteria.
Wonder why the fundies dont see this as a vengeful gods response to selecting a totally immoral man who worships the golden calf (Wall Street) to lead them?

(1,954 posts)They're 'sane' to the point of being 'insane'. They see humanity as grievously overpopulated, along the lines of 'by the billions', and see this virus as a natural extension of our population growth. To some, it highlights the perils of globalization in a nationalized world (?) and to others, they're showcasing it as "Look what happens when we cut our carbon footprint, we need more of these outbreaks." Strictly speaking they're not wrong, and I wouldn't qualify them as insane, but cold and callous at the very least.
In regards to the fundies... Mate, there's absolutely no reasoning with -that- brand of crazy. At least the environmental extremists have some logic, callous as it is; fundies, you can't unwrap that bundle of bonkers at all.

As far as the eco-terrorists, a lot of people really piss me off but I consider myself a strong environmentalist, but I am not willing to self-identify as a parasite on the planet.
