Why the fundraising numbers for August are even more impressive than first glance

The Romney campaign raised $111.6 million in August. Which set the record for largest monthly haul in campaign history.

Then 22 minutes later, the Obama campaign announced an August total of $114.0 million. A new record.

Keep in mind these salient facts:

The GOP convention was held August 28-30. All money raised by the GOP during their convention was counting in their August totals.

The Democratic convention was held September 4-6. None of the money collected during that time by the Obama campaign and the DNC counts in the August totals.

So the Obama campaign outraised the Romney campaign depite the fact that the Romney campaign had their convention in August and the Democrats didn't.

The level of enthusiasm coming out of Charlotte is palpable. The fundraising totals for the Obama campaign and the DNC were likely through the roof for the past several days.

Don't be surprised if the Obama campaign and the DNC have a $150+ million September.
