Many basic cable tv packages lack a cable news station. I recommend that for public health safety that the cable companies add for free - cable news stations to these packages.
It will be in the best interest of all of us that as we proceed through the next stages of this pandemic that we have a well informed public.
I can't imagine not being able to keep up on the developments of this crisis without my cable news stations.
Please call your cable companies and make this recommendation.

(18,770 posts)I agree that cable and streaming companies put the channels in the free tier.
If you stream (like with Roku or Amazon Fire TV), CBSN is free - they have their own channel (app) and it's also on Pluto TV (also free). Hope this helps!

(8,445 posts)I got an email from Xfinity that said:
News and Information: To help keep you informed, we have created a collection of the most current news and information on Coronavirus. Just say "coronavirus" into your X1 or Flex Voice Remote.
Educational Content: For those with school-age students at home, we've created new educational collections for all grade levels in partnership with Common Sense Media. Just say "education" into your X1 or Flex Voice Remote.
I think that at some point it would be a nice gesture, and good PR, for them to toss in some free channels for kids and maybe some diversion channels for adults. It could be a good business move for them, because if people find out that they like those channels, they may subscribe after this hell is over.

(43,049 posts)they constantly recycle old news to fill time and push their own stars to fill the place with propaganda. CNN is the best of the lot, but still often light on actual information.
PBS and NPR do as good a job as can be done these days, and local nooze is often on top of things better than the big guys are.
TV news is dependent upon ratings and advertisers, so they go with the popular stories, and research staffs are often sacrificed.
