Remember the "H1N1 virus?"

I actually came down with it, but ye gawds, did I feel terrible for a couple weeks.

So I'm not scared of the coronavirus.

If I get it, I get it.

I'll be sick for a couple weeks, then it'll go away.

"Ain't you scared of dying from it?"
Nope.

Same thing, if I do die from it, then I do.

A lot of Americans don't have paid sick leave. This means a lot of people will be coming to work sick.

That just continues the spread of the disease... vulnerable people will die from it (without a doubt). Honestly, funding WHO and the CDC, and getting some really smart people on creating the vaccination would be the best move forward.

The problem is WHO's funding was cut dramatically in 2017/2018/2019...

The flu's gotten pretty bad in recent years too. We've seen record numbers of deaths. There's more deaths attributed to the flu than the opioid epidemic.

to work to make rent, older people who have other medical issues, folks whose work depends on people going out, people who will be hurt by a recession that the virus might precipitate, etc.

Personally, I'm not too concerned. But I'd be quite concerned if I fell in any of the groups above. Hope everything works out.

4. Doesn't it seem like when one disease is cured, another one pops up?

Ever since the HIV/AIDS crisis, we seem to have a plethora of new strains of something going around: West Nile, Lyme Disease, H1N1, SARS, MERS, and quite a few others. I know some of these are older and were dormant, but geez.

We're just not meant to live forever.

I contracted H1N1 before it was cool. It actually didn't last very long. I think I was out of commission for 2 days with it. I had a worse time a few years later with the "regular" flu that piggybacked with Strep.

The difference back then was that I had health insurance, money in my bank account, and sick days. Now, I am much worse off financially, in a DV situation, no health insurance, bad health/diet, and my place of employment does not offer paid sick days. And one better not call out because they don't look kindly on that. Calling out because my mom died last month was bad enough for them. The kicker? I work with small children. In close physical contact. I also work alongside an elderly population. Let's see how that works out with no sick days, no money, and no health insurance.

And my company is health-related. It would almost be funny if it wasn't so enraging and terrifying.
