There's a phrase running around in our media putting a condition on our "strong economy"... "despite the strong economy".
Things like:
"Despite the strong economy, more people needing to work multiple jobs to make ends meet"
"Despite the strong economy, the number and share of renters burdened by housing costs rose last year"
"Despite the strong economy, many Americans continue to struggle to pay their bills"
See a pattern? It's kind of interesting how this "despite the strong economy" is seen with the working class, the "middle class", people who rent, people who can't make whole payments on things and rely on making monthly payments, etc.
Has anyone seen quotes such as "Despite the strong economy, billionaires having trouble affording their lifestyles" or "Despite the strong economy, the Dow has only made lackluster gains this year"?
Kinda weird, right?

Despite our strong economy, and further despite the hundreds of billions of dollars invested in the 'military' each year, we cannot keep many of our nation's young children from going hungry every night.

(52,206 posts)Growth has not been particularly better than it was under Obama, yet his economy was always referred to as growing too slow, anemic recovery, etc.
Had he been a Republican, the media would have credited him with the longest expansion in American history.

She works hard, has enough food to eat and a roof over her head but no dental insurance since she can't afford $25 extra a month and forget about out of pocket costs. I finally made my point (and almost gave myself a heart attack I was so pissed off at her ignorant responses). She represents many Americans who buy the BS they are fed by the govt and media without question.
